Hi headin to Orlando on tuesday for a week and although its a quiet time for us in the UK, was reading that parks can be packed as its spring break time over there just now! was wondering if anyone, perhaps our US members, could advise on this as im not sure when this holiday starts - perhaps the following week from what i can gather online? Much appreciated

Spring break tends to be staggered across different places, and kicks off next week and can last through to mid-April.

I suppose if being surrounded by party-happy teens is not your thing you might want to avoid some of the hot spots at this time of year, but in my experience it's all rather tame and the hype is just that!

I've been there end of march and we hit spring break. It was awful I've never seen the parks so busy!

Panama City Beach is a ghetto BTW. As that list does not include a lot of schools. For Example MTSU's spring break is March 4 to 12 and not on the list.

Thanks for that dont mind the partying its just waiting in line for rides that dont appeal (old age at 25!!)...hopefully next week wont be too bad, looks like it all kicks off properly the following week so may be lucky! cant wait to go now my first flight in PE as a pax rather than crew on VS! will attempt a trip report when we return - I know everythin that should be done so will keep a look out!.

Only got 6 days so thinking universal, Magic kingdom & Bush gardens would be enough for parks across 3 days leaving a day or 2 for shopping and maybe the beach, that sound ok or anyone got better suggestion? or think other parks are better? not been on hols in orlando since a kid so not too sure what semi grown ups should do! Staying in Kissimmee the hotel/resort has free transport to most parks and outlet malls but do you think we still need a car?

You won't regret hiring a car, as then you have the freedom to come and go as you wish, and shop as much as you like (Without having to lug your parcels onto a shuttle bus)

Joey

As Slinky says, Spring Break is staggered across the country and will tend to find March 12 - 31 a busy time.

Whilst we over this side of the pond associate "spring break" with High School jinks - it also applies to the elementary schools. It is this sector of the community (ably assisted by parents and their wallets[}:)]) who will fill up the parks.

Haver a great time and don't forget the Trip Report

I'd second hiring a car too Joey -it'll give you much more freedom than relying on shuttle buses.

Unless you are going to stay in a city like New York or Boston then a car is an absolute necessity anywhere in the US!!

I'm incredibly pleased that by a complete fluke we did our Florida trip last week and so avoided the whole Spring Break palaver. We stayed at one of the Universal Orlando hotels for our three days in Orlando and so had automatic express access to the front of the queue for most rides, but it was barely necessary. We never had to wait longer than for the previous passengers to finish their ride and get off, but even people in the none express lines weren't waiting more than about ten minutes for even the businest rides.

Good to hear you had an enjoyable trip, last time we went to "The Parks" it was August and heaving! Never again.
