This has probably been asked before, but my weak searching skills didn't turn anything up. I am just curious, when you are seated in UC with a partner/spouse/friend/colleague/etc. do you prefer to sit 'side by side' (ie. 8K, 9K) or across the aisle (ie. 10G, 10K) I understand there are different seat configurations on different aircraft so my row numbers may not hold true across the board, but I think you get the gist of my question.

In my experience, VS tends to seat people booking together 'side by side', but MrStars and I tend to fly across the aisle from each other when in the UCS. We changed my parents seats to across the aisle from one another and I hope they like that configuration.

Anyway, as I said, just curious which way people prefer, as neither are ideal for communicating with your companion.

Usually opposite (747 has to be 8A and 8K) but next trips(Airbus) are all side by side on the single aisle.

Same as Decker..A and A etc...It gives me a chance to get some peace and quiet without having to take off the QC2's every 5 min's because I have to answer a question or grunt at an observation.

I prefer to be side by side, as I can peer over the divider, and say hello, however my OH would probably prefer to be a few rows away so he can have some peace and quiet!! LOL [xx(]

Also in the A340, I like to have the wall in front, for more privacy. [y]

Prefer to be side by side - though I've never tried 6A/K on a 744...

Actually my expressed preference was for a 343. On 747s we prefer 8A and K...

Side by side for us too, we have only taken one flight in UC when not side by side and that convinced us that having adjacent seating is the best. The center pair of suites in the B zone might be a good option with the center divider removed but as we, like most it would appear, prefer the A zone, we would only try the B zone if the A zone was full.

You have your valet sleep next to you? Positively uncouth, GJ! He should be back in Y awaiting the gentle tinkle of a little silver bell with which you would summon him. Having the staff in J? Good god, start allowing the proletariat into UC and the next thing you know you'll have a revolution on your hands!

Always been a 6 A/K guy on the 744. For our upcoming HKG and SYD trips on the 346 we've gone 7D and 5 & 6A, now that jr. gets a whole darn suite to herself. 7D certainly strikes me as a cosy spot...

The only time I've done a UC trip with The Other Mr Morgan we didn't really have a choice, as we were op-upped into 15A and D (on a 747). Which was nice, as it meant we weren't at opposite ends of the cabin so we could talk to each other if we wanted to, and worked quite well as he's not a great flyer and likes to just focus on his book, or IFE or DS and that gave him the chance to do so. And I could wander up to the bar and sit for a while reading and chatting with the crew without feeling I was abandoning him. For the next time, when we actually book UC, I'm slightly intrigued by the two middle suites with the divider taken out, but I'm not sure... Has anyone tried this, and if so did it enhance the sense of travelling together?

When I've travelled with colleagues in UC it's made very little difference where we've sat, as we're usually focused on getting our work done, with possibly a joint trip to the bar to break up the flight and for a chat.

...Back OT, I suppose we need to say that the D & G "side by side" is the least helpful if flying with a friend or loved one -- given one is faced entirely away from the companion. Would you agree?

GJ

LRoM and Lady Sarah have sampled the head to head joy of D and G, row 15 I think it was, surely the chance to lay ones head next to Lady S might temp even you GJ? [:w]

Sleep suit? One of those awful, pre-worn, polyester atrocities? Not for GJ (or me, for the record). A night gown with matching cap in finest Egyptian cotton, and nothing less!

Mrs. mdvipond and I once did the D/G sans partition thing on the way back from SFO a couple of years ago. I rather liked it, very cosy, but my dear lady enjoyed in considerably less due the fact that I slowly tried to take over both suites whilst we slept. Much the same at home apparently...

So looks like MrStars and I are in the minority in choosing the 'across the aisle' configuration... hopefully my parents are not disappointed we chose that for them as well. I should add that all my UC experiences have been in A340s (not sure if they were A343 or A346s). Thanks for all of the responses!

Well for us it depends on various aspects:

When I used to fly solo then it depended on plane. I quite liked 15K on the 74S (Zone A kind of screams of Garbo in a 'I vant to alone' manner), for the 34S then it's 1D as the whole UC cabin appears as one.

Nowadays travelling with LadyS, again depends on plane:

If we are travelling on a LGW flight, then it's 6A and 6K right in the nose as far away as possible from anything else.

If we are travelling on a 74S flight, then we do the couples seats which are 15,16,17,18D&G, preferably 15D&G.

If we are travelling on a 34S flight, then side by side, typically on the K side, normally 5/6.

Thanks,
Richard

I've always prefered 6A & K, if they are unavailable then I go for side by side.
