Best Premium Economy Seats

If I wanted one of the Premium Economy seats in row 18 (A or K) which are not pre-assignable until the day of travel at the airport, should I simply arrive as soon as the check-in desk opens 4 hours before departure and ask for that seat? Would that work? I am a Flying Club Red member - flying to Hong Kong.

That's what I've usually done flying LHR > SFO - although I've not actually requested a particular seat #, rather asked "Would it be possible to have a bulkhead/exit row seat please?"
