I'm a tad confused after 2 telephone calls with VS today, to cut a very long story short, the first agent advised I could not take a guest into the Gatwick clubhouse with me as I'm not a 'gold', even though I'm flying UC. When I replied I'd taken a guest in before she said I shouldn't have done because I'm not gold [?]

The second agent advised yes I could take a guest in the clubhouse 'free' and then take more in at a cost. I mentioned what the first agent had said and she apologised on her behalf saying it was incorrect information.

But I'm now left wondering if what the first agent said was correct and there's been a change in the rules? Any comments?

Thanks

Clare

In a nutshell the first agent was wrong - the second agent was right.

All UC pax can take a guest into the CH provided the guest is flying on VS that day.

What if you are on an upgraded ticket?

I've just upgraded (with miles) to Upper (My first time [:)]) to LAX in June. The premier team person I spoke to said I would not officially be able to take a guest in as I was on a reward upgrade, but I should ask on the day and they 'may' allow if space available.

If you have paid for your upgrade (even with miles) then it is as Nick has said.

Operational Upgrades are of course different

On this note, I spoke with some VS staff yesterday and they said that they are moving all the call centres back to the UK. People are going to be invested in and trained properly even though the costs are much higher than India, they recognise the value in it.
This is apparently to include the calls from the US and there will be 24 hour service here in the UK. I hope this is true and it will lead to much better/consistent service.

That is great news. I have always said that those call centres are a false economy. I just hope that the people who staff the new ones are trained to a reasonable standard, and that it applies to VH as well as VS. [y]

That is great news, I stopped flying DL due to their call center, a lot of companies could learn from this.

I had the best call centre incident a few weeks back. It was an Indian call centre from the bank telling me they had a recorded message for me to listen to. The message was a request to call the bank!! What's that all about?

Anyway to summarise, Clubhouse access is fairly simple, if you fall into any of the following you can following you are eligible to take one guest in with you:

1) Flying in Upper Class ...
...having paid for a Upper Class ticket with money
...having paid for a Upper Class ticket with miles
...having paid for an upgradable ticket and then upgraded with money or miles
2) Hold a current and valid Flying Club Gold card, irrespective of the class you are flying

You cannot get into a Clubhouse if:
1) You are flying PE or Economy and are not Flying Club Gold
2) Are flying PE or Economy and have been given a free 'Op-Up' to Upper

Also note that the only people who are eligible to use Revivals at Heathrow are those who have flown Upper ... no guests allowed. If you bum wasn't in an Upper Class Suite you can't get into Revivals. Edit to add - unless you have a Flying Club Gold Card, then you can have access even if flying Premium or Economy but no guests.

Golds get into Revivals when flying PE or Y, Mat.

I agree, it is a good move and will hopefully lead to an improved customer service experience.

I do, however, think it is not just the foreign call centre staff who are 100% up to speed with everything, the amount of times the UK staff contradict themselves and what their colleagues have already said is amazing, so I would still like to see all round better training.
