upper class and passenger numbers

does anyone know how full upper class gets on the lgw-mco route cause if travelling alone do you have to sit next to someone u dont even know!

Frequently the B section of Upper Class on the LGW routes are used as PE, meaning there are only 16 seats in 'true' Upper. Although Upper isn't as popular from LGW as it is from LHR, the lower number of seats means if you are travelling alone then there may be a chance you are seated next to someone you don't know.

That's sort of a gamble you take on any route, on any airline when you travel alone. It would be uneconomic to block off seats next to all lone passengers, though the new UCS does remove that problem going forward.

Highly unlikely, since if they designate it as PE, they serve PE meals in that section.

So, if they have say, 17 UC pax, they do not use the rest of B section?

Correct. If there's overspill of fare-paying UC passengers into the B section, then it will be an Upper Class service. If they have too many PE passengers than seats on the same flight, then some lucky PE pax will get upgraded to Upper, and although they'll probably get the B section, they'll also get the Upper Class meal service too.

I don't think the problem of overselling UC on this route is likely to occur very often, but obviouly it isn't impossible.

I suppose they could 're designate' the whole of the B section as UC without a problem though.

Exactly what happened to us on both legs of our LGW-LAS-LGW flight. A most welcome experience!

Walker you sure like asking lots of questions.....

Pix has pointed out the situation quite well. Proper J traffic is a bit hit and miss on the route - I've been pushed up from PE a few times on this route, I always get put in Zone A so I get the full Upper Service.

The scenario that is quite possible is that the plane is full, but with less than 16 proper J passengers, what you will find is that the passengers witht he highest status will be put in Zone A, and then the others will be in Zone B - Upper Seats with a PE service.
