I am a Flying Club Silver member. I want to fly from LHR-NRT - can I use 30000 miles to upgrade at the airport? What is the likelihood of an upgrade this way? And, can I upgrade the return route at LHR?

See the upgrades guide for more in-depth info, but the prognosis is: it's seems unlikely you'll get a upgrade from Economy to UC on the day. And always bear in mind that on the day, it's more about how much availability there is, rather than whether you have the right fare-class.

Have you actually booked the Economy ticket yet?

Hi there,

I have to ask - is there any particular reason why you would wait until you got to the airport, rather than arranging and confirming beforehand?

Be aware that the LHR-NRT route typically has one of the highest concentrations of VS Gold members of all the VS routes so the possibility of an Op-upgrade for a Silver is not very high.

Thanks - There is no real reason why I need to wait until I get to the airport. In fact, it would be better to do it beforehand. I am just concerned that the fare classes required are the flexible fares and therefore more expensive (is this usually so). I have been successful upgrading from PE to Upper with miles before at the airport on a fareclass that wouldn't allow upgrade before that.

I am not hopeful of or even expecting an op-up since the likelihood is remote. Would I have a significantly better chance with PE to Upper than Econ to Upper?
