Ahhh...but isn't a points whore someone who garners miles by rental cars, credit cards, hotels etc. ? This is gaining status and mileage by actually flying.

I thought there was an expression something like a millage trip where you are flying just to get more miles (TP's in virgin's case) to gain/keep FF status?

a points whore is a bit different in that people would put their mortgage payments through their amex just to gain extra points/miles!

Jonathan, as Onionz said a few post back the expression is "Mileage Run" it was at the bottom of his post.

I must confess to being a point whore but not to the extent of putting my mortgage through Amex I must admit, mind you...

If you are just short, you could do a quick flight on BMI in Business somewhere - I can see a qualifying business class fare to Dublin for £159 in October - worth 2 TP's.

Yup I was VERY upset when my local Mercedes garage wouldn't let me Amex the car...

I had the same problem with the XK8, they took Visa but not Amex, it was only for the deposit mind you, not the whole bloody car

So anyone figured a way to pay your mortgage and earn miles?

A couple of years ago when the "one account"(off set mortgage/current/saving account) was the "Virgin one account" on opening the account there was a mileage incentive cannot remember what it was exactly but I think around 40k.

Yes thats right, there was a nice incentive to take out a Virgin One account.

Just like there was the miles for buying a car from Virgin Cars (think that was 40k too), and a further 30k bonus miles if you financed the car with them.

Actually, that bonus is still there - except it's only 20k for the finance now - see here.

Also, you can get up to 30k miles with Virgin Bikes - see here
