Also, as the journey is a very long one, I assume they will have to operate two A346's at any one time on this route? Where are the aircraft coming from?

They will be operating the new 346's then be replaced by A380 when they come in to service. There will be a 90 min stop over not sure if pass will deplane. Flight's ive been on with a stopoff they wouldnt let us off for security reasons etc.

cheers

I do hope VS will allow over-night stop-overs - maybe through VH as it's much better doing it that way rather than flying for 23Hrs with only a few hours break. Not sure though as the SYD flights still have the VS200 flight numbers, the same as HKG [?]

Mind you when I did it, I flew BA to SIN then Qantas SIN-SYD

I am sorry, but the more I think about the 'no stopover' / 'no deplaning' rule, the more it fills me with dread. 23 hours in economy! [:(]

In these days of DVT scares, if every other airline doing the Oz routes allows stopovers, how can VS hope that people will use them?

Really cannot believe they won't be offering stopovers. Really will cut out some of the market share if they don't.

Flying to Hong Kong later this year (11th Oct, if anybody wants to invite me and the brother into the CH :)) and would love to stop back there to on the way to SYD.

Regardless of this, I am not flying to SYD in Ec, PE or preferably UC for that one me thinks!

From reading the thread I see that LHR-SYD is 23 hrs flying time. Could someone enlighten me on how long each segment is and what the likelihood of having UCS would be for a trip in late December '04?

Thank you.

Chuck

It's approx 12.5 hrs LHR to HKG with a stop off of 90 mins at HKG then approx 9 Hrs HKG to SYD.

UCS should be on all A340-600's by December.

James,
Thanks so much for that information. Now that SYD is finally a destination, any chance that VS would switch out the A346 for a B747?
Along with allowing stopovers I'd say that the larger aircraft (and eventually a 380) would increase VS' chances of garnering pax.

When will VS gets FINAL Approval for this route?? It seems they haven't received the approval from HKG (as CX does not have the approval for LHR-JFK), therefore that is why they won't allow pax to get out in HKG for the SYD flight.
