Virgin Wines are offering free delivery for all order placed up to July 31st. This offer only applies to the normal (£4.99) delivery charge. Happy Drinking ;)

Not entirely connected but thought I'd plug my wine merchant :D - always provided excellent service and has a nice annual tasting at the Goring in Central London for regulars. http://www.chateauxwines.co.uk/. The Micocoulier is particularly good value.

Having said that I do use VW for quarterly deliveries... 750 miles a pop and drinkable wine ;)

Cheapest case is the three bottle gift pack @ £29.95, so 20 x £29.95 say £600 for 15,000 FC miles and some quaffable vino into the bargain ;)

I have not used Virgin Wines before but coincidentally placed my first order for 2 cases yesterday. They then emailed me a £20 voucher that I can put towards my next order (to be purchased by 31 Aug). This with free delivery seems good.

cheers(?)

GO

I've used VW for a couple of years now and have found them to be nothing less than 1st class (and I never can resist it when the Wine Advisor rings me with a special case offer!) - the extra miles are a nice bonus too :)

Cheers

Agree, VW offer an excellent service.

Only problems I have had is getting the 750 miles added to my FC account, every other time I have to make a couple of calls to chase them up. Anybody else had any problems?

Yup pretty much every other case too. They're very helpful in trying to sort it though. Longest wait was case before last - about three months!

Bazz - probably although VW lasts a bit longer than stuff from my other supplier. Tend (overall) to prefer my merchant's stuff... getting old :)

We used to buy quaffing stuff from Sunday Times wine club or Waitrose but now I push it all through VW to get the miles, good stuff I have a merchant to supply that but we don't drink the good stuff everynight ;)

Interesting - took the decision a long while back that drinking during the week NEEDED better wines to avoid any repercussions the next day. Mind you given the duty involved the difference between a potential problem and a clear head is only about 4GBP (sorry on terminal in Zaventem Airport so no Pound sign - thank goodness for Priority Pass the BMI lounge is a bearpit, the common lounge is almost empty and has free internet access!).

I agree, you don't want the cheap plonk that smells of alcohol and tastes like turps [xx(] I suppose we spend an average of about seven quid for the quaffing stuff which buys some perfectly acceptable wine these days if you choose carefully ;) the miles are just an added bonus and if you consume a lot it is surprising how quickly the add up :)

Not I - every single order has gone on ~5 days later :)

Did you chase up FC or VW for the miles[?]

Normally VW...

Yup I chase up VW, that seems to be where things fall over (must be all that wine :D)

very friendly, very helpful, normally sort it out within a couple of days, but it's just very frustrating.

Current example;

ordered a case on 10th June
delivered 15th June
...no miles yet

ordered another case 1st July
delivered 5th July
miles in FC account 8th July.

Always seems to happen (to me), they'll be very efficient and then randomly miss one or two completely, on chasing up they sort it out after a couple of days, but it is starting to get a bit irritating.

Edited to add:

Minutes after posting that I had a phone call from VW, very apologetic, doubled my miles for that case, 20GBP voucher for next case, and now a named individual at VW who will ensure miles go on every time...typical Virgin service, one of the best companies I know at turning a negative into a positive.

I've just had grat service from them in the 'if you don't like a wine, we'll refund you' department.

I ordered a three bottle gift pack (maximising miles for money), opened a bottle yesterday evening, e-mailed them this morning to say I hated it, and have just got a response saying they were sorry and confirming a refund. What more could one ask for?!

Which wine was it, so that I can avoid it?

Valle Berta Gavi (the white in the Summer Gift Pack). I can see that some people would like it, but I just found it far to lemony. At least it had character - last week I had a glass of a 'brand name' californian (not my choice) which managed to be both bland and so offensive that I had to brush my teeth to get rid of the taste.

Thanks Helen,

I still have some gift packs from my big spend during the double miles promo last winter, I must open 'em up and see what the white wine is.

Hmmm. so that's 750 from VW plus 250 bonus from Amex then add the MR for the value of the purchase (X 2 if you have that benefit) :) seems like I need to order some more ;)
