Read on the BA flyer talk forum - Guardian reviews the new VS ad...full review on flyertalk.com - aparantly the Guardian doesn't like the fantasy and falsenes of the before and after beauty shots of the pax flying UCS..saying VS should stick to realty of air travel, and the BA lot are laughing about it.

I mean we all remember flying BA and an orchestra performing the flower duet following us everywhere...isn't advertising about selling a lifestyle and providing a fantasy therefore enticing the audience to buy into it.

Lets see the Guardian turn down all that advertising business if they think so strongly about it.

Just my little rant for the evening..as they say 'no publicity is bad publicity'...

i'm flying to SFO in September - with the UCS.

Does this mean that if I don't come back looking younger and more beautiful I can sue?;)

It always suprised me that it is the FT that is printed on pink paper where it should be the Guardian (mind you then the Telegraph would need to be printed on blue)[}:)]

Blimey, calm down dear!

This is a small (very funny) weekly column that takes the mick out of the advertising industry and how shallow/crass it can be. It was actually a very funny piece, commented how good Virgin was, but made the point that no matter how good an airline is flying long haul isn't that enjoyable. Previous taregts have included the Michael Winner adverts and various car companies.

How can you comment on it if you haven't even read it!

as posted elsewhere on this topic I found it very amusing as an article - in fact my reading of it was that it praised VS in comparison to others. But let's not start that whole "Which is the Devil's favourite newspaper" thing again... [8D]

Funniest bit in the column was pondering how the casting session worked. Did they have two sessions, a before and after, or did they have them all in at the same time,

"Hi, I'd like you to meet a handsome/pretty version of yourself"

"No sorry, you there, you may not like it but you are in the wrong group. Yes, you! Now do as you're told and move over there to the before group"

Surely IÕm entitled to write an opinion on whatever I please without you judging or making a crass comment, give your opinion on the ad if you want, just don't patronise...which for some strange reason seems to be so in abundance on aviation forums!!

I would like to think that this forum is an exception as far as patronising remarks are concerned. We have very little trouble here and are generally regarded as a friendly forum.

We hope to keep it that way.

I am not speaking from a position of knowledge, but I think that the reference made about calming down was a quote from one of those awful television ads that Michael Winner does, rather than a dig at you.

Healthy debate and expression of opinions are encouraged here - personal and / or patronising remarks are not.

db1, apologies if you took it that way, should have applied a couple of smileys to make it clear toungue was firmly in cheek.
As Nick suggested it was indeed a reference to the Winner ads
