No sign of VS (not a lot of showing from airlines in general - only the BA simulator and a SAA 744 flyby), but in the programme there a shot of Madame Butterfly (G-VSHY) to show off the A340-600

L'il bit of a Trip Report:
As Jonathan was staying with relatives in Reading overnight on Friday, he most graciously offered me a lift down to Farnborough (or was it that he wanted to show off his brand new Astra?). We arranged to meet at 8am on Saturday morning so that we'd avoid the big traffic chaos.
Having duly met up, we soon realised that while both of us had checked out directions to Farnborough, neither of us had deemed it fit to press the "print" button and bring them with us [:I] I said we should just head towards and past Bracknell and the M3. We ended up arriving in about 3/4 of an hour, despite a couple of wrong turns
No problem finding a spot to park, and we were fairly near the entrance - had to go through a metal detector to get in, and were then greeted by 2 armed policemen. Headed off to get some breakfast - bacon rolls at one of the snack vans (somebody managed to spill brown sauce down them
) before having a wander round all the static plane displays.
Some great old planes in the Rolls-Royce Centenary Park, here's just a couple of examples:

As we moved away onto the general display areas, I got a text message from Pegitt to say he'd been called into work [:(], so it was just me & Jonathan for the day.
The general display area had loads of planes (some private jets) and helicopters to look at. Had to take a picture of this ugly-looking Ukranian plane - ugh:

Jonathan went for a trip around the Boeing stand, while I stood outside having a smoke, soaking up the sunshine. When he came out, we decided to have a look at the Airbus stand up in Hall 4 (right up at the very top of the hill [V])
On the way to the Airbus stand, I grabbed a couple of pictures of a General Electric engine, and a full size landing gear strut (apparently Messier-Dowty make all the Airbus landing gear):

We had to laugh when we asked one of the Airbus guys about the A380 and they didn't understand what we were talking about (the bloke ws decidedly French!) - LOL. After coming out of Hall 4 and grabbing some fresh donuts, we avoided the BA simulator & stand (selling caps, mugs & pens - I ask you!) and headed back down the hill to watch the flying display.
The flying display was opened by the Red Arrows - boy, those guys are good! It was the first time I'd seen them live, and they really are superb. What seemed like an endless stream of aircraft gave wonderful displays of aerobatics - even the ones that just flew past were excellent. An A318 and an A346 were also part of the display - nice to see them both. It was also really good to see and hear a Spitfire in the display (as well as a Hurricane & a Lancaster making up the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight) - she really is one of the best aircraft that Britain's ever built, and that engine note is soooo sweet

At about 4pm, even though the display wasn't over, we decided to make a move for the exits. We were both tired and being cooked to a crisp, plus it was a good idea to avoid the crowd leaving. Good job we did this, as South African Airways had sent a 744 for a fly past and we got a much better view while moving towards the exits than we would have done if we'd have stayed where we were.

Even with a certain moderator's guidance to take a wrong exit off a roundabout [:I], we managed to avoid the bulk of the traffic and had a speedy journey back up to Reading - here endeth my first airshow
All in all, despite a disappointing V-Flyer turnout, it was an excellent day out [8D]

Shame i didnt get to go yestarday with Michael and Jonathan i was looking foward to meeting up with again.

I ended up going on Saturday in the end. Met up with the Parents, Sister, her family etc, so wouldnt have been able to meet up [:(]
I had a quick wander around the stands but was more interested in the flying display. Mum and Dad got there stupidly early so had parked the car in a really good spot next to the end of the runway. So we sat and watched the display from there.
When the A346 landed he came right up to the end of the runway to turn around and then back taxi, my neice waved and he gave her a little wave back out the window, while sporting an Airbus Flag
Pegitt, What days has the Lancaster been landing in Southampton? I live in Hamble so the flight path is sometimes above us and I never saw it [:(] I would have kept an eye out for it if I would have known. I even got the train from Southampton Airport Station to Farnborough, it might have been there then!

My Report:
So I met up with Michael at 8:00am
I was surprised I was on time as I got to bed at 1am the night before!
So we left Reading, neither of us that sure where to go!
We headed toward the M3 and picked up Farnborough signs
We got there at 9:15 and was able to park by the entrance which was handy for getting away quickly at the end of the day.
Had some breakfast (spilt loads of brown source over me hey ho[:I])
Started looking at some planes
The Nimrod was the first plane followed by a Canberra.
Then we saw the WWII fighters (they still looked good 50 yrs on)
We then saw various civilian Jets, Gulfstreams etc.
two things surprised the about the Gulfstream first the 6k Mile range secondly The IR weapons jammers that are available as extras! 747's donÕt have anti missile systems so i was surprised they were available on small jets!
We then looked at Boeing ( well I did as Mcuth had a cigarette)
The Boeing stand was principally there to promote the 7E7 dreamliner
The literature was interesting as they said how much lighter their equipment was versus Airbus.
The final part of Boeing display comprised a mock cross section of the 7E7 dreamliner cabin.
There was a lady explaining how use of composites will allow for bigger windows and better humidity that what is currently available.
Anyway we then checked out a few of the halls before the air show.
The Air Show!!
The Red Arrows opened the show they were very very good. I donÕt think BAE could get better advertising for the Hawk than using the arrows!!
There were various fighters/transports and a few airbuses!
My favs were
The Eurofighter
The Stealth
The Spitfire
The Harrier
I was starting to flag from my late night/early start so we headed back to the car in time to see the SAA 744 which flew from Heathrow in 5 mins!
It was a really good day..itÕs a shame there was only Mike and I from the forum..
Hopefully weÕll have better numbers for the boat day in Sept!

a friend said he had seen her on sat as well i guess just after the show display in the afternoon.
I think it may be kept in the hangar there as i have seen her fly out of SOU menny time's before.
