Hi all, I have been reading with interest all the posts regarding the current refit programme. As we're off to MCO in Feb 05 I get the impression that the chances are we'll be on a refitted 747. We are going PE and have reserved seats on the upper deck. Will these be the same old seats as before or are these being replaced? I'm also a bit confused regarding the IFE. Will this be changed as well?

Can I end my post by saying that the number of VS staffers posting is quite incredible. Your obvious enthusiasm for your company fills me, a paying customer, with considerable confidence that you genuinely want to provide top class service. A rare comodity indeed in todays profit led business ethos. I guess this is why you win so many awards and why this site is so popular.

Thanks for taking the time to offer us mortals a glimpse into the operational side of air travel.

Hi miopik

Yes chances are you'll be on a refitted 744 as at least 4 out of 5 will have been done by Feb 2005. I'm a bit confused about the IFE aswell! [:p] It'll definitely be different to what's on there at the moment (Nova) and I thought I'd read somewhere that the LGW fleet were to get v:port, although other VS staffers on here think that Nova is getting upgraded. I'll investigate when I next get a chance. As for whether the PE seats will be different, I'm sorry I have no idea on that one.

Thank you for your kind words [:I] VS is still small enough that people can make a difference and a lot of people I know have grown up with the airline and really feel part of it. Sadly Richard isn't involved in the day to day running of the airline anymore but hopefully his enthusiasm and flair is evident in a lot of the staff that our customers come into contact with.

Cheers

I have heard that the seats on the Upper deck of LGW400 will stay the same however when the the upper class seats in row 11 and 12 are removed they will be replaced by the new style PE seats!!

So PE will have two different types of seats flying on each aircraft from LGW.

That means if the upstairs seats are going then V-Port will not be installed beacuse the current PE seat cannot fit the screen!

(Tongue in cheek mode on) Why not put the new PE seats upstairs and move the old PE seats into economy and replace those, increasing the pitch to 32"? Econ pax don't need updated IFE systems, just give them more booze! [}:)][}:)]:D:D:D:D[}:)][}:)]

Hmmmm different seats and IFE upstairs and downstairs. I guess we'll have to wait until the first LGW 744 is completed later this year.

If we still have Nova to look foward to I think we will need more booze.

Thanks for your help.

This is a couple of months old now, but the last plan I saw suggested Nova was staying, and as declan stated there would be some new PE seating downstairs and the original stuff upstairs. At the time, Nova couldn't actually cope with the number of seats installed, so a row of 3 seats in Y were to be designated as a 'portable DVD' row.

Methinks they may have updated that by now though, since it's way too Heath Robinson and not at all a good solution. Given the ongoing committment to V:Port throughout the fleet (eventually), it would make far better sense to bit the bullet and stick the AVOD system in.

What ever seats are installed the IFE will be the same in all classes on both decks.

You will not get V-Port and Nova on one aircraft it will be one or the other.

Aha, things could be looking up then.

I'm guessing that all LGW 744s will be the same so going on what has been said previously in other threads we may well know the answer within the next couple of months.

Once again thanks for your help.
