I have been thinking...

I am a frequent traveller on VS200/201 LHR-HKG-LHR route but now that the route continues onto SYD from December, there will obviously be less seats available on the A346 for the passengers travelling on just the first segment LHR-HKG because the seats will be taken up by passengers doing LHR-SYD via HKG. Will this be an issue to the HKG travellers making their bookings due to fewer seats available on the flight as I know 200/201 are very popular during peak seasons?

That is a good point i dont know. Prior to 9/11 VS managed to get bmi (bmi didnt want to puchase 343's just to fly to hkg) to give them the slot they had on LHR-HKG meaning that VS would be able to operate 2 daily services. VS announced a 2nd daily service, i remember seeing it in airliner world news section but then the plans got scrapped prob due to the uncertainty after 9/11. I would imagine they may use this slot to provide a 2nd daily service- one VS staffer on here told me that we wld be most likely to see 2 x LHR-HKG with the SYD route being introduced.

As a side the SYD arrangements are an utter mess to be quite honest. Flying Club, VS reservations, SYD airport do not seem to know which part of the terminal VS will operate to- those Frequent Flyers to SYD will know there are 2 completly different sections of the international terminal with seperate immigration baggage halls etc. I am trying to connect to an NZ service and no one is able to tell me if i need to clear immigraiton in SYD or if the service will operate to the same terminal as NZ.

It really strikes me VS is not prepared for SYD operations at all!

yea i heard that VS might do 2x daily to HKG in the future. One being non-stop LHR-HKG and the other LHR-HKG-SYD. But there is absolutely no date in the near future to start the 2x daily service. If the SYD route is prove to be successful then I guess I have to book HKG on VS well in advance.

With only 3 months to go with the start of the SYD service, i wandered also whether VS is prepared. This service had really been hush hush rather than the explosive advertising. And also the case of whether the route has been granted or not however it was confirmed by one of the VS staff on this site that the route has been granted.

Pretty much confirms the reasoning discussed on the other thread

Let's hope VS don't make a mess of this - but if they do I guess they're right to keep the route quiet. The issue really is that since it is more likely to be people in the know (frequent travellers) who initially use the route do you really want to piss them off with an unprepared service.

Its quite normal for Virgin to launch a route and set it up within a short time.

There are many people working on the SYD launch and be assured that SYD will launch in early december.

Look at ORD and YYZ how quickly they were announced.

Bahamas and Cuba seem to have the longest time to get ready over 1 year!!!
