Weather warning - East Coast

VS flights may be impacted by the worsening weather on the East coast.

Some colleagues had their flights from SFO cancelled today, they were due to fly out late and arrive early Friday morning. They are now flying out now, to try and land between the 2 storms predicted to hit Boston and other East Coast major airports.

Well it sure has from Minneapolis to New York this evening, all flights to LGA, EWR and JFK from here are cancelled ... which has totally screwed up my schedule.

The second storm is predicted to be what we call a Nor'easter. Basically two storms meeting -- one coming from the West and the other coming up from the South. Typically this means 2-3 days to dig out and get normal airport ops -- to say nothing about the rest of our infrastructure -- going again.

The VS12 is currently struggling to get out of BOS. All loaded but inevitable de-icing delays as the queue gets longer.... 3hrs 30 mins and counting

Yet the simple truth is that the weather is not that bad!

Off to JFK tomorrow and the down to SJU on Sunday - Looks like I'm in for an interesting weekend!

Well, looking out of my 20th floor window at the Cambridge Marriott, it looks pretty bad from here!

It took one of my colleagues 5 hours to get home last night, his commute is normally 45 mins.

Just hoping that I can get to Logan on Saturday before the next one hits!

Good luck David, I know how that feels, I struggled to get out of Denver last year just before Christmas when they had 3 feet of snow, que 650 mile drive east to Omaha and landing at LHR on the 24th Dec, a day late than planned.

Currently trying to shift my evening flight forward Tampa-Hartford as the next storm comes in--but of course, so is everyone else. Southwest and Jet Blue have allowed all pax on flights headed to north east cities today and tomorrow to make no charge changes up until Wednesday--which is really a very smart move as it reduces the backlog apres storm.

Hoping very much to arrive before a repeat of Thursday and airport closures. The upcoming storm is forecast to include gale winds and gusts along with additional heavy snowfall to add to the 10 inches from Thurs--as well as potentially damaging ice as warmer gale winds move in from the Atlantic. Several of my colleagues chose to take it all as a meant to be mandate to head to the beach (it's def beach weather here) and hope they can get out very early on Monday morning--I wish them luck! Southwest is suprisingly good--haven't really flown them very often but besides very comfortable seats, frequent beverage top ups and extremely quick turnarounds, they have a good sense of humour as well as offering mobile updates on flight status.

Oh--lovely--an agent just called me and handed me a bp for the 3:25 as a seat has just opened up. (and Tampa airport offers free wifi...).

Yep--made it back relatively on time (3.5 hrs) but an extremely turbulent ride as the front came in. Pilot tried to find airspace that was a bit smoother
but it was basically a solid mass of disturbance from Georgia on. He reassured pax that the ride was rough but the plane was 'completely'safe which I thought a wise call as there were many groans every time the plane was shunted side to side or dropped a bit. SW cabin crew were excellent--did their best to reassure pax all was good and mopped up mobile beverages as they took on independent flight.

It is very, very cold here (-8) and due to grow colder (-20). Noticed that Chicago flights were canceled as well when exited airport--their intense storm is the western half that is headed towards our coastal contribution.

Great! I'm on the VS39 to chicago tomorrow. Anyone know what the local conditions at ORD are like now and whether there's likely to be any delays or cancellations tomorrow?

ORD again open--snowing quite heavily in New England,which may affect afternoon and evening travel as storm warning and ice accumulation particularly on the coast is forecast to be significant later today.
