From VAA Press Release, 25th October

Virgin Atlantic is delighted to be introducing brand new amenity kits for its Upper Class passengers, specially designed by bespoke couturier and Savile Row tailor Ozwald Boateng. The new kits, which will be onboard from October 28, will be a designer wash-bag containing essentials for travel including Ozwald Boating socks and toothbrush and a gift specially designed by Ozwald.

Sir Richard Branson, Chairman of Virgin Atlantic, commented:

“We are delighted to be working with Ozwald Boateng on the new Upper Class amenity kits. I have long admired his work and indeed, my first suit was made not so long ago by this talented designer! We can now bring his unique style to the sky with a fantastic new amenity kit to complement our award winning Upper Class Suite.

“The new bag and contents reflect the high quality and style that is synonymous with Virgin Atlantic Upper Class. We hope our passengers will enjoy the new kit and in particular the surprise gift which will become collector’s items of the future!”

Ozwald Boateng, commented:

“I am delighted to have designed the new amenity kits for Virgin Atlantic Upper Class. Virgin Atlantic have blazed a trail with the new standard of stylish air travel – they have successfully brought elements of a luxury five star hotel to their Upper Class Suite and have created the ultimate flying experience.

“I see Virgin Atlantic as a perfect partner for me as their ethos of style, quality and individuality is so close to my own brand values. Virgin Atlantic is always my preferred airline and I am really pleased to be working with them in this way and look forward to a long partnership. ”

Each Upper Class passenger will receive the new kit, an Ozwald Boateng unisex wash bag, which is black with red or purple herringbone lining, containing: Ozwald Boateng socks and toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs, Virgin Atlantic eye mask, Virgin Atlantic pen, comb, Polo mints, Virgin Vie Moisturiser and Lip balm. On the outbound flight the special gift from Ozwald will be a pair of cufflinks and on the inbound flight it will be an Ozwald Boateng hand mirror or key ring. All gifts are presented in designer gift bags.

To celebrate the new amenity kit, an interview with Ozwald Boateng is featured in the October issue of Carlos, the airline’s Upper Class magazine.

Menswear designer and Savile Row tailor Ozwald Boateng is an innovator in his field, creating and selling his designs since he was 16 years old. Whilst his designs have originality and modernity, they adhere to the traditional disciplines and etiquettes of Savile Row tailoring. His clients include David Bowie, Daniel Day Lewis, Jude Law, Will Smith, Laurence Fishburne, Keanu Reeves and Sir Richard Branson.

It's hard to believe SRB only recently acquired his first suit :D

I have to agree - the perfect collaboration for Virgin!!

It would be nice if they could offer the choice of either cufflinks or hand mirror/key ring in both directions to keep everyone happy but if they run out of your choice just as they get to you then you are going to be even more unhappy. At least this way they are managing people's expectations - I guess the trick is to fly UC both ways if you want both gifts (and let's face it they are exactly that, free gifts!!).

Nice one Virgin.

Very cool - love Ozwald Boateng, done UC now so just gotta save for the suit I have been after for years. He really does make fantastic suits and shirts.

Pictures please for those flying from the 28th ;)

Agree with mitchja - good to see still getting the Polo's, one of the best things in the kit I thought.

Foz :o)

I used to like the extra strong mints in the metal tin that you used to get, but polos are fine to calm down dragon breath:D

I'd like them to go for a range of gifts, packed at random, then regular flyers can try to collect them all (with a secondary market moderated on a site like V-Flyer obviously). As well as cufflinks, a hand mirror and key ring why not go for:
- Pen (good quality, not non-stick coated)
- Jewellery (brooch, bangle perhaps)
- Memory key (nerd)
- Headphones

Any other suggestions / requests?

Also,
Why not put in a GBP5 Retail Therapy voucher... We can have the option to save or spend.

I'm a big fan of cufflinks (although it's not always that easy to find women's shirts that take them). They're great for Christms Cracker gifts too, if E-bay etc doesn't appeal.

I got a look at the new kit today, and it really is the best amenity kit Virgin has ever done.

Beautifully designed, with a clever hook built in so you can hang it up and with a detachable pouch. Ooo, and the cufflinks are very cool - presented in a classy velvet draw-string bag.

I took some photos, but the dodgy camera on my phone don't really do it justice (so apologies for the poor image quality)

from the way you descibe the kit, I am sure one will be popping up on E-bay in the next couple of days!

Thanks once again

Yes, it is - those photos really don't do it justice!

The exterior is a charcol/black, and inside is lined with a luxurious deep purple.
