FC Miles With VH ?

Does anyone know if you get VS air miles when booking a holiday through VH ?

Yes you do get VS air miles with VH bookings at the same rate as VS bookings.

Also meant to add that you also get tier points.

Just to clarify, FC members get 5% off (you can't book online AFAIK so you can't get 10% that way), and you earn 2 FC miles for every £1 spent on package holidays and megadeals.
As moid has correctly said you will also earn FC miles and TPs in the standard way on the flight - note that not all Virgin Holidays holidays use VS as the carrier.

McMaddog - thanks for adding the bit about 2 miles per £1 sent - I had forgotten about this as when I booked my trip for April 2009 it was still when you got 10% off

yep no probs, personally I liked the extra 5% off a whole lot more!

I completely agree it benefited me a lot more - I suppose it is a way of VH and/or VS saving money in the current economic climate

do you not have to pay on a VS credit card to get the points on a holiday? If not how do you claim them?

No you just have to give VH your Flying Club number when you book.

Just to clarify, are we talking about just the VS flights on a VH booking or the whole VH booking value that you can claim miles on?

As I understand it you can claim miles on the value of the whole booking at a rate of 2 miles per £1 spent.

Your earn the normal VS mileage/TP's when the VH package has VS flights in it.

To earn miles for the whole VH booking as well, you would need to pay using your VS Amex card. (2 miles per £1 spent with the white card or 4 miles per £1 spent using the black card)

Bear in mind though that VH do charge a CC booking fee (1.5%) if you pay using the VS Amex.

Edit - Looks like they have changed this again as when I booked my VH package earlier this year, I got a 10% Flying Club discount but wont earn any miles for just making the booking but now you only get a 5% discount but do earn miles for making a booking (2 miles per £1 spent) regardless of how you pay so I guess this is in addition to the miles you would also earn if you pay using your VS Amex card.

My first VH booking was through a travel agent and I received the miles for the flights and Tier Points. The 2 miles per £1 spent is a new idea and in addition to the miles for the flights.

I just phoned VH, and the guy I spoke to hadn't got a clue what I was talking about!

I think some may be getting confused between the miles you earn on the flight as per normal with a VS flight and the miles you can earn when paying for the holiday on a Virgin Atlantic credit card. At least, it seems to me that we are talking about both items in the one thread?

You should earn 2 FC miles for every £1 spent with VH however you pay. When the discount for FC members went from 10% to 5% they introduced this as a new benefit to try and soften the blow. You will probably be best doing the booking over the phone and you need to make sure you give them your FC number.

You should then also earn on top of that, the usual rate of miles if you book on your AmEx and any miles flown if on VS metal. It isn't that clear but all is explained in the partner info on the VS FC website.

I am relatively new to the airmiles business but don't VS give you air miles through their 'partner ' companies . Those being the companies that VS have agreements in place to reward us for booking flights, hotels Etc .
If this is the case, surely VH will be one such company

Yep, spot on. As Neil says above, there is the standard 2 miles earnt per £1 spent, then additional miles on top if you have a Virgin Credit Card. Very confusing for some staffers I imagine.

So nothing additional for FVC members(who are also FC members) who've opted to retain their 10% discount (and nor forsake it for the alternative 'benefits' (not) FVC were touting?

I think the 'value' of the alternative benefits for FVC members + a 5% discount against a plain 10% discount would depend on the value of the booking. As far as I am concerned as I tend to spend c£5k per booking an extra 5% discount (c£250) is worth far more than any of the other new 'benefits' offered.
