New UC menu from September 3 08 LHR - MIA

I have looked on the Virgin website and seen that the 'sample menu' is still showing 'Spring 2008'...

... is this still current (this month) ex-LHR or has it been changed yet?

The VS site is rarely updated.

I always use TR's to get an more up to date idea of the menu's on certain routes, so they might be your best bet.

I would love to know the current menu for LGW - MCO but seemingly no TR's for Upper in a long time?

That was the menu before last. It changed in June and if you look at any UC trip reports to US destinations whether from LHR or LGW it will give you an idea of what is currently on offer. I think however it is due to change soon as the UC menu changes every three months and that time is up just about now.

We travelled in May I hope its changed since then. It was pretty horrendous.
Luckily we had already had a panini and coffee from Starbucks and I bought some
Krispy Kreme to take aboard so I survived the 9 hours on that instead LOL

The menu changed on September 3rd. Here are the details:-

Starters

- seasonal leaf salad with fennel, beetroot, flaked salmon & a herb dressing
- soup of the day

Main courses

- chicken breast stuffed with spinach & feta, braised lentils and buttered leeks
- steak and mushroom pie with potatoes and sauteed savoy cabbage
- yorkshire pudding with brocoli & stilton, sun dried tomatoes and parmesan

Desserts
- dessert of the day (any 2 of the following)
- chocolate & toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce
- treacle tart with creme anglaise
- pear, apple, cinnamon & sultana crumble with custard
- rhubarb mousse

Afternoon tea
- sandwich selection, scones and cakes

I totally agree. Yorkshire Pudding is to be servied with Roast Beef and that is it. A very weird choice for the veggie option.

Starters look very boring but otherwise not too bad.

Do what I did. Look at the Light Bites and if there is anything that is suitable as a starter choose it instead. I had a Caesar Chicken Salad instead of the starter on offer the last time

I was on VS19 yesterday with the new menu. There's a salad with some strips of salmon on it, which is ok-ish, portion not big enough! I then had the steak and mushroom pie, nice steak, not enough (mashed)potatoes and the sautŽed cabbage was disgusting, it smelt horrible so I couldn't eat that, and I like cabbage! Try it- see what you think.

An excellent sticky toffee pud does not come with ice cream so make sure you ask for ice cream if you want it. It really is good but goes quickly so get your orders in quick.

I had one of the lighter bites for later, the dough ball with sun dried tomatoes. Again it was ok, just some bread type thing with the tomatoes baked inside the dough mixture and also separate on the plate with some lettuce on the side. The portion needs to be bigger - maybe I should have asked for two!

Sorry can't give you run down of the wine, I have cut out alcohol almost completely on long haul flights to the west coast as it doesn't do me much good. Had a double baileys to compensate.

Not a very inspiring menu for me, would be nice to have some decent fish there in the main course,

I need to know something.....

Could someone please tell me WTF they are smoking at VS, that isn't a menu for a J cabin, thats a Blue Peter look at us make this menu. This makes me wish for the atomic bangers and mash back again.

Let me see, on that whole menu I could eat two whole things.

I am sorry, I have said this before, I am all for an upbeat menu, but those combinations look ghastly.

Also, what is the soup (glop) cream of wild poison ivy ? Just a guess but probably pretty close.

I was actually thinking about doing a quick flight over before I go back to work next month...Forget it [:#]

Now that I stop and think about it, the domestic AA first class flight I took earlier this year had a better main course than this swill VS if offering ( it was tortellini dish) which really does show how low VS has sunk to in order to try to come across as hip.

I'm sure you'll be thrilled to know that one of the light bite options is mini sausages with cheese mash and sweet onion gravy. [}:)]

I've passed your suggestion for cream of wild poison ivy soup to the catering team for possible inclusion in the January 09 menu. [;)]

The soup of the day options this time around are:-

- cauliflower & Croxton Manor cheddar
- creamy parsnip
- leek and potato
