Re Yorkshire Puddings apparently JUST having them with roast beef is not historically correct. My Dad's family (large family, Peterborough area, growing up aroung the 2nd World War) used to eat them a lot and often NOT with meat (to expensive to have much more than once a week). His Mum often used to male large Yorkshire Puddings stuffed with vegetables and served with gravey OR even for dessert spread with jam! Still, we are talking 9 mouths to feed, not very well off family, around the 2nd world war - Yorkshire Puddings were an economical meal choice... Still am no sure that is an 'aspirational image' that VS wants to go for... and it isn't an option that appeals much to me...

Yorkshire puddings are intended as a starter with gravy Yorkshire gets a capital start with me being a Yorkshire geezer, as previously mentioned more for pudding later with sugar.

Menu looks ok to me, how flexible is it with the mixing and matching and is enough loaded so that people are likely to get what they want?

All I can say is I hope they change the menu before our flight in April! If not, then chicken cesar and mini sausages it is for all 4 of us!

The vegetarian Yorkshire pudding is an interesting one as it should really be made with beef dripping...

He used to be a rude, angry, bitter little man. But then Neil came along, and everything changed...

The menu sounds OK - although a vegetarian Yorkshire pud is clearly taking the proverbial. There have been much worse offerings over the last couple of years (the salmon and hake monstrosity springs to mind).

Still, for me it keeps coming back to the same old thing: I remember the days of perfectly cooked fillet steak with port wine jus or pan-fried chicken breast in Madeira sauce. Today's offerings really are much more akin to tarted up Y food than anything resembling genuine J fare. But, times are hard - apparently - and those halcyon days of good food, red cushions and decent amenity packs are now long gone.

I never remember the PERFECTLY cooked fillet steak (I remember an ok one or two), but I am a bit younger... [;)]

I am guessing that they are just trying to be innovative. I am not bowled overed by the main courses on offer: I am not a big chicken fan (I am very fussy about chicken), like you say the Yorkshire Pudding sounds errr... The pie sounds as though it could be a bit heavy/stodgy - I am hoping that Jetstreamer or someone else comes back and says that it is wonderful [:)]

I am still a fan of BA's food over Virgin's (but husband disagrees). I know that their food is pre-plated, but have had some nice main courses (a surprisingly very nice cottage pie, some nice curries etc).

Some of Virgin's good old amenity kits haven't completely gone - they are just hiding at the bottom of my wardrobe... [:D]

Innovative? Doing that to a perfectly innocent Yorkshire pudding has nothing to do with innovation - it's bloody vandalism! To be fair, I think they're being frugal rather than innovative.

As for the perfectly cooked steak - trust me, it has happened: Upgraded from PE to UC coming back from BGI in '99. One fillet steak, medium rare, absolutely spot on. With duchess potatoes. Ah, I can almost taste it now...

Ma and Pa tried BA earlier this year and claimed the food was worse than VS, which must take some doing. Mind you, they truly hated everything about CW, so maybe their view of the food was a tad tarnished.
