So this evening got home to find my invoice from VH for our fly drive holiday next year.

We are flying out on a Thursday and returning home 4 weeks later on the Thursday, clearly landing at LHR early on Friday morning.

On my invoice is a weekend supplement charge. Now call me silly but I was of the belief that a weekend supplement charge was only used when flying at the weekend. Therefore surely I shouldn't have been charged for this? Or is it some kind of 'luxury' as I am holiday for a period including a Saturday night stay?

Answers would be appreciated.

It's because you land on a Friday. The travel industry weekend has always been Friday - Monday.

VS do exactly the same as their fares are always more when either arriving or departing Fri - Mon.

Thank you for the answer! I did wonder if it was that but thought it cant be as my flight departs on Thursday did not realise that it included the day of arrival as well.

I agree, it is always departure date of each sector that affects weekend surcharges.
I haven't seen a fare rule that includes Thursday departure yet.

The Travel industry must be the only place in the world that has more of the week as 'weekend' (Fri-Mon) than 'week' (Tue-Thu)!!!!
