We flew into Manchester on the VS76 on Saturday 20th at 7 a.m. and at the time there seemed to be a full alert on. One taxiway was littered with emergency vehicles but as the 'incident' was on the opposite side of the plane and as it was still partly dark, I could see little else. We were then held on a different taxiway for some time while we waited for our stand to clear as traffic was queued right back for take off.

I've checked local news sites but cannot find any info. Just being nosey really but does anyone know what was going on?

No it wasnt the excel 763 and bmi baby 733 incident that was a long time ago- around 5th November. I cant really find anything on this at all-currently.

It really could have been anything- remember that a/c will get an emergency escort for any number of reason ranging from a possible undercarage failure to an ill passenger or anything really. 9/10 these alarms turn out to be false. If the lights were yellow it could have even been birds on the runway. Obviusly it was nothing other than a flase alarm because nothing is coming up in the search engines.

Thanks guys

As you say probably a false alarm. It was certainly a full turn out rather than for birds as there were flashing blues everywhere. We were parked up for some time near the fire station and I did notice that there was only one appliance left there.

The main thing is that it would seem that nobody was hurt. What a time Manchester is having. First the BMI Baby/Excel incident the day before we flew to the States. Then, while we were away, the PIA that was escorted in by 2 fighters when it failed to make contact with British controllers. Finally whatever was happening as we returned.
