According to the Sunday Times article here.

from 25 April a lot of the rules brought in after 9/11 will be relaxed - small scissors and nail files will no longer be confiscated:D

More importantly metal cutlery will make a come back :D:D

To my surprise, I had metal cutlery in the business cabin (an op-up) on an LH ATH-FRA flight last week.

Did VS actually keep any of the cutlery they had made, or did they sell the lot?

Presumably, if they sold the whole inventory, they'll either have to make a new batch or redesign now?

I know they sold off a lot of the new stock they had, I acquired a lovely full set and somehow in its delivery to my Uk residence was intercepted by my mother who was meant to be house-sitting and taken back to Spain. So not amused.[:(!]

Lovely Robert Welch cutlery it was too, she always makes a point of usign it when I go over there - breakfast, lunch and dinner, I put it down to jealousy of me getting to use the fab CLubhouses all the time as she loves the V.Touch salons... :)

Thanks,
Richard

A little OT, but I was in Chili's restaurant in ATL (airside) on Sunday. They issued plastic knives but metal forks [:0]

Of course, you can't do any damage with a fork can you? *BIG SIGH*

Not too bad at all thanks - don't really want to come home - certainly don't want to go back to work next week [:(]
Just drafting TRs for the last 4 DL flights, only VS20 on Thursday to go now......

Interesting Article,

I understand that ministers believe that hightened security in the cabin has decreased the chances of a sharp object being a threat. However this to me suggests that they somehow believe that the threat of terrorism has deminished, when it is clearly still v much alive?

I just wonder if this might come back an bite and airline in the bottom?

I hope you can see my point... I would be interested to hear others opinions.

P.s. I quite like the VS UC culterly (albeit plastic), it could be a lot worse.

I read it that there was an over-reaction to security measures after 9/11, to ensure everything done was done to keep us safe.

Now three years later, we can take a more measured view on the practicalities of these measures, and some areas have been relaxed.

Remember that this is not revoking all the rules, just relaxing some of them - stengthened cabin doors and CCTV systems for example will stay in place, as will passenger screening.

Very true that a terrorist threat is still there, but I think these measures will not increase the threat, or realistically make it any easier for the terrorist.

Will be lovely to have a metal knife to cut through a steak, and a metal spoon to eat soup!

When you do get metal cutlery in the Clubhouses (the ones which are land-side, like JFK or SFO), it's very nice stuff.

Looking forward to it making a comeback elsewhere!

Thank god someone's come to their senses, a metal knife used for eating with isn't in most people's opinion as dangerous a weopon as a smashed bottle of champers in UC. I've seen a lot more damage from bottles than normal knives and forks!!!

Unless BA quickly re-instate it. VS will then have to speed up its act!

I had plastic cutlery at the Clubhouse on 26/03, but on arrival to the US i had left my tweezers on my make-up bag but they were allowed through (and they were the angled sharp kind) i thought this was odd as 6 months ago they would have been conviscated.

I did however have a pair of eyelash curlers inspected -as in taken out of the bag and asked to demonstrate their use LOL I cant imagine what damage i could do with an eyelash curler but at least it kept the trip interesting. :D
