Please bear with my ignorance. I'm new to VA.

Am I correct that I can ask for a seat assignment within 180 days of my trip?

Must I do it over the phone or does VA allow you to select a seat online?

My wife and I are flying upperclass (roundtrip, JFK-LHR) and, using your site's seating charts, have decided upon different pairs of seats we'd prefer. We've looked at seats on the non-suite 747-400 (LHR) plane configuration. I have no idea how to pre-select seats for a suite configuration as there is no guarantee our plane will have suites. My only guess is to check closer to departure.

Finally, anyone have any comments on seats in row 6, right up front?

Thanks,

JM

Hi JM,

Yup, you can book your seats up to 180 days in advance. Bear in mind that only (approx) 40% of the seats are available for pre-book, so although your first choice might not be available you still might be able to snare it at the airport.

You'll need to call Virgin to do the seat assignments, unfortunately you can't do it online. (Maybe I could do a bit of work for them, freelance! :)

If you're on the VS3/4, it's pretty likely that you'll have a Suite (and when you call, they'll be able to tell you what aircraft is scheduled - subject to operational changes). Always worth calling a couple of weeks before just to double check the situation.

Depending on your preference; upstairs is good for undisturbed sleeping; the back cabin of downstairs is good if you're planning to stay up, watch films, eat, drink and be merry; and the front cabin is good for a mixture of the two. The seat ratings can give you an indication of some more specifics.

Above all, enjoy your flight!

My only comment about row 6 (very first row) in UC is you get a different type of video screen, as normally your 10" screen is in the back of the seat in front of you. In the first row they fold out of your seat (much like those on the old type of Upper Class seats (LGW flights) - it's also smaller too.
