Anybody else having problems accessing the virgin-atlantic.com site today?

I have been trying to get on it all afternoon, but all I get is a page saying the site is currently unavailable.

It must be losing them some business to do maintenance at this time of day rather than overnight, or has there been a major problem that they have had to sort urgently?

There have been several mentions of it during the day.

Down for maintenance??

Noticed this myself too, annoying as need to book my flight to Delhi but want the online booking bonus so will have to wait for it to be back up and hope that the price hasn't gone up...

Hmmm, now 9 p.m. and the site appears to have been in trouble since lunchtime. If you're in the business of Web sites then that is a disaster and implies a serious problem with a lack of redundancy. As well as that if they haven't been taking bookings for 8+ hours say there'll be quite a financial cost. I should imagine that several people are in deep and there'll be a lot of fraught behaviour going on.[B)]

Yeah, brings back horrible memories of last Wednesday for me. I arrive at work (8:30am) to be told the internet connection is broken. Swapping firewalls, ADSL modems, switches, shouting at the ISP - nothing seemed to help. I could ping the outside world, just couldn't access anything!

Then finally at 5:15pm I located the source of the problem. A cable between a wall socket and patch panel! Aaaaagggghhhhhhh! Very relieved as I could get away in time to make my massage appointment that evening!

I'm quite surprised that it has been down this long. Hopefully it will be back up soon, if not if you want online discount / miles bonus if you call FC will they give it to you on the phone?

You can almost hear the cabin crew & hold music across the world, as we type - "did you know that you can book flights and redeem miles 24 hours a day at virginatlantic.com...." [:0][B)]

I have a lot of sympathy for those trying to fix it...!

Foz,

Normally, if there's a problem such as this (or there's absolutely no way to book what you want online), Flying Club will honour the discount over the phone.

Oh my. I really hope it is back up tomorrow. If not, is there a telephone check-in service? I guess not, but thought I would ask anyway. If not, is there any other way for one to check in for a Heathrow-JFK flight in advance?

Use the manual check in kiosks. To do it really in advance, you could make a trip out of it, get to LHR a day early and spend the next 24 hours plane spotting. ;)

Perhaps they're updating the flight search function with the DXB and MBJ routes.

Well the Japanese website is still working:

http://www.virginatlantic.co.jp/

I can't find a way to login in to my account with it though - looks to be reservations only.

I can't believe it is still down. How far in advance of your flight can you use the manual check-in kiosks? We are travelling up to Heathrow today, but our flight is not until tomorrow AM. Can we check-in today at these kiosks and get rid of our luggage??

Thanks.

Good news to those of you wanting to use it for OLCI, its back up and working again just this moment.

:D

Feel sorry for those fellow techies who probably haven't left crawley all night.

Been there and done that. Not literally though you understand (ie Been at Crawley all night fixing Virgin's servers!), but I have been in at our place all night working on some poxy (rather than proxy - techie's will get it) server that is doing something that microsoft have not yet written a fix for ;-( between 3 and 5 in the morning are the worst. When you get to this time you could almost do another day.

My work are just re-writing our contracts to get us officially on 24/7 (rather than by peer and management pressure that has been used until now).

Well done guys, feel for you.

Hmmm - that sounds like constructive dismissal to me if you don't want to accept it...

I used to do 24/7 on-call for a week at a time once a month, fortunately it was for corporate lawyers so the out of hours work was fairly limited - most calls usually fixed with "You can't print? Ok have you tried printing to one of the other 20 printers in the building? Try that and let me know if you still have a problem". The £200 a week retainer fee certainly was nice though. ;)

If it was late at night I would guess this was scheduled maintenace. Better to be done at 2345 UK time than 0930 UK time

Its still not the best time given US customers use the website too.

Thats the trouble with global websites VS should really seperate co.uk from .com that way maintanace would be easier
