Hi All,

Has the managing my booking thing changed recently? I looked on to add all the details in for API, and I can no longer find anything to get up a seat map, or select kids meals for the 2 minors traveling with us.

What is going on here?

Thanks.

Do you get the page with the 'Passenger Details' and 'Flight Itinerary' view ?

There has been a change to the layout of the My Booking page. As Paul says, when you log on you should get a page with the countdown clock and underneath a band that says Passenger Details. Under that there should be one box with passenger name, Frequent flyer, API and Dietary requirements with links to all of these. There is a second box under this looking for details of phone numbers.

Under that is a Flight Itinerary section with details of the flight and at the bottom of that box is a Where's my seat link.

The only thing that is missing is the little arrow under your name which enabled you to see your seat selection once the magic 60% of seat requests had been made and you were not allowed to view the seat map

Hope this helps

Thank you, but there is nothing under the flight details section. There is nothing that would even suggest I could view a seat map, even if the 60% of pre allocated seats have gone.

Any idea about not being able to select a childs meal?

I think the link to select seats or even view the map does disappear when the 60% mark has been reached. I've seen it disappear from my booking after being available for some time.

However, I can;t under stand why you cannot see the 'dietary requirements' column, which should be in the 'Passenger Details' section.

The columns in that section should be seen as

Passenger Name, Frequent Flyer, Advance Passenger Information, Dietary Requirements

In that case I would be calling VS

I've uploaded an image of the 'manage my bookings' screen for our next flight to the photos section showing the dietary requirements and seat map options that I see on a current booking. I'll add a link from here as soon as it's approved. (EDIT - added below). Hope this helps.

Is the reason why there's no 'child meal' selection because they are registered as children by the system and assigned a child's meal by default ?

I would be very wary of that assumption. The first time I flew with Aer John was when he was 5 years old on SAA. My travel agent told me it was OK , that they would pick up that he was a child and assign a child's meal. As it happened it was not an issue as he fell asleep the moment we boarded the aircraft each way but the reality was there was no child's meal for him.

Fast forward 3 years and again the assertion from the travel agent that on my trip to JNB VS would pick up that he was a child in spite of my request for a child meal. (We're talking about 1997 here) The flight had a significant number of UMs as it was the beginning of the school holidays but when they were served their child meals it was obvious there was none for Aer John. When I queried it I was told that, no the system did not pick up that because there was a child fare there should be a child meal because children had different tastes and experiences and that they had to be requested separately. I requested a child meal for the return flight. He took one look at it and refused it. I would have done the same. [:$]

I suppose it would make too much sense...

Also I am making an assumption that G-FLY's 'minors' are flying on child, rather than adult, fares and I may well be wide of the mark there.

My two were put off airline food for life by experience of child meals...

In our case the screen shows 'view/amend' under the dietary requirements heading, having order the child's meal when booking.

My children often refuse the Child's meal on Virgin. Strange because as an adult thats what I would have thought they would eat.
Perhaps Virgin should consider a focus group of children to help plan the menu for the kids meals.

My two tens to turn their noses up too. Yet, last year, when we flew UC to LAX, when the childs meal was plated and presented like a meal, the kids enjoyed it! [:?]

Are you guys sure? I've seen some CHML's on VS flights that are better quality than the PE and UC food....

Fish fingers is always a winner compared to some poncey stuff that is expected to be reheated properly by staff that have a million other things to do.

Oh, sorely.[:w] Mrspjh can just about cope with the financial consequences of my wishing to travel PE, but in smilie terms upgrading at this cost would run [:0][:(!][xx(] ending in [B)]

I also suspect the Bank of Mum and Dad will be suffering calls on its reserves as The Favoured One ventures across the US in the summer.

Your (and Mrspjh's) forward planning and relative frugality are an example that this once great Nation's bankers could do well to look toward. Mind you, I suggest you phone VS and ask them to remove the 'Upgrade Now' button from your booking forwith. To them it may be valuable marketing, to me it's just plain mean...
