BA ex. MCO

I'm due to fly back tomorrow in VA Upper. I've just had a call from VA to say that the flight is full as they've only one flight (I knew that because I was moved from the canx VS28 weeks ago).

They asked me to take a move to BA CW and as I was under the impression that they don't have flat beds on that route yet, I declined.

She did say she may need to call me back but told her as a Au card holder I should have priority.

Will check in on line ASAP and can also go to DTD if necessary, but if I am offloaded can anyone give me further information as to what to expect with BA. If it's flat beds I really don't mind but otherwise I won't be a happy bunny as I have two appointments on Friday that I can't miss and need to be fully awake for and can't sleep unless I'm laid fully horizontal.

Any advice would be appreciated.

BA flights to MCO have CW flat beds, albeit the old style and coffin beds!

Fingers crossed you don't have to change your flights.

Id just like to clarify that by saying the coffin beds refers to a play on the Club World name as Coffin World. Which some have used to describe the cabin layout.

While the CW on the MCO is indeed that older version of CW, it is nonetheless the same club World that has been in the air for many years, until the introduction of the new version about a year ago.

It is a perfectly fine product & a worthy competitor to Virgins UCS.

To my mind there wouldnt be a thing wrong with travelling home from MCO with BA in CW.

Mmm, Coffin Bed is a fair description. It's no match for the UCS in my book; now the NNCW product, that's a whole different story and is a very strong product.

I actually quite liked the old CW, havent flown on the NGCW yet so cant comment there. I would even have to go so far as to say that CW had no more of a coffin feel to it than the UCS. The only difference being that you have direct access to the aisle from the UCS.

Without wanting to get into the nitty gritty of the pros and cons of each product & to answer the OPs question, as to if flying CW MCO-LGW would be an acceptable alternative to the UCS. I would have to say that it most definitely would be.

Both are exceptionally good products in their own right.

Hopefully the OP will come back & let us know, what they thought of CW, if they did end up being switched to BA.

Didn't want you guys to fight but, hey, boys will be boys and it did give me different opinions which is what I wanted.

I checked in on line yesterday evening but didn't get a confirmation email to trotted off to DTD this morning.

Again was asked to change to BA, I asked if there was any compensation and, if so, what it was. Option of either 250 off a future flight or 30K FF miles.

I did consider it, and probably have more money than sense, but because I'm travelling alone, have plenty of miles and a couple more flights booked already, I decided I didn't want to climb over a snoring old g*t in the middle of the flight which I'm told is possible. If I'd been with my husband I would have gone for it.

Edited to say - thanks for the photos I hadn't seen them before I left this morning but having done so I think I've made the right decision. Just doesn't look private enough for me.

The window seats in CW are quite private, but you do have to climb over an Old Git to get out [;)]

But they are great when travelling with your partner, whos in the aisle seat. Makes for a very pleasant setup for chatting.

The aisle seats though can be quite exposed & the middle pair (E+F) are to my mind best left to a couple travelling together. I think I would be quite disturbed to end up in one of those, if travelling alone, beside a stranger. Particularly for a night flight, which as someone once described as being like, spooning with a stranger [:0]

I would have to say that VS do win the preferred seat for the solo traveller [y]

That said, though I have felt a little self conscious looking across into another passengers seat in the UCS. On a trip to MCO last year I couldnt help but think that I was staring at the passenger across the aisle from me & he staring back at me. So to that end, I would always try to get one of the single seats facing the blank wall when on the A340.
