I do fully agree with this, and will eventually use my miles to travel in UC, a cabin I cant actually see myself being able to buy anytime soon. That being said, the routes I earn most of my miles on are LAS and MCO, and you trying booking an UC reward fare on these routes!!!!!

The reason I started this post was again to try and get some pointers about how I can prove to VS that I flew all 4 of my recent sectors of GF and didnt claim any other miles. I can prove I flew 3, but lost those dam boarding stubs for the 4th.

This 1 tier point will actually prevent me renewing Silver.

Interesting times - I agree and very challenging too. So how much dam money is it going to cost VS to confirm with GF I flew that sector. FFS, its so easy. Im not worth a fortune to em, but I do spend about 8000 a year on myself and family and I aint ganna spend a penny if I have a red card come August!!!!

Well can't comment on the LAS route as I've said before, I'd rather go via SFO/LAX in Upper and then across to LAS. As for MCO, yes I've been able to get multiple redemptions in the past for Upper and PE for my family. It's all about flexibility in reality, if the miles are going to save me 1500+, I'm happy to be flexible; but then to be fair I don't have kids so don't really need or want to travel around school holidays.

Not being rude, but Silver is hardly anything special to be honest as we all know it's core benefit is to be able to use PE check-in, but that is diminished nowadays with the drive for OLCI. If you are 1 TP short of the 10TP required for renewal, then that indicates that only 6TP could have possibly come from flying VS - so I wouldn't expect much flexibility on their part to be honest.

It is unfortunate that you are running into issues with GF, but I don't see how the loss of the Silver status via a lost GF boarding pass would equate to you deciding not to spend any further money with them. What does the loss of Silver actually mean? If you'e spending 8k a year with them, and racking up 6TP I'd take an educated guess that you're flying in PE anyway so Silver really is of no use at all.

Sorry to be so blunt but if you're that depesperate for silver then pay GF the 35 they want or have another good look for the BP !

Actually while reading this thread and the one bemoaning the inability to provide the magical boarding pass stub on GF, I have been scratching my head as to the desperation to retain silver. [?] As Richard has said the only perceivable benefit has been to use the PE check-in but the last few times I have been through LHR economy has been relatively quiet and in LGW there is the option of Twilight check-in as well as the OLCI bag-drop.

Maybe it's just the additional 25 pcnt miles on the VS flights they want...

Which adds up if you are saving for a miles flight in UC. I sometimes think it's easy for Aus to look down on Silver ... [B)]

Anyway the point has been laboured now, but don't be too harsh on the OP. He's kicking himself for losing a stub and doesn't think it right to pay Gulf 35 for a letter. Nor do I, it's a rip off. BUT, as I said in his original thread, if it's worth that much just pay Gulf and forget it - btw all the time spent posting about this is probably worth more than the thirty five quid now anyway [}:)].

I'd forgotten that. It makes more sense, then

Silver is actually worth about 20,000 miles per year for myself and wife due to the extra 25%

I agree it's not worth too much, but its nice for a small timer like me to be above the bottom rung on an airlines program. VS also make a big deal out of my attaining Silver. I get a nice pack in the post and feel a little valued.

At the end of the day VS are correct on all points, and I am at fault for not retaining my dam stub - VS could have made me happy very easily and at no expense, but they chose not too.....

It's not the biggest deal in the world, and to date I have always had a good experience with VS, and not had cause to complain. However, what if I had a big issue in the future? The treatment I received from VS this time has completely knocked my confidence and I would be genuinely concerned if I had a serious issue.

A good company are really worth their salt when things go wrong.

Hold on, it's 25% of base economy mileage. Which is say ~1750 miles difference on an 'expensive' economy ticket (M, L, B, Y) for a return to NY.

We fly MCO twice a year (with kids) in economy, silver here is worth about 2200 extra miles each return for each of us, so about 8800 miles. Myself and wife also fly PE to LAS twice a year. The extra miles here are worth about 2700 extra each trip, each person, so 10800 and 19600 totally....

Hold on - I'm really confused now:

2 x trips in Economy - 8TP
2 x trips in PE - 12TP

I make that 20TP, so kind of in a fix on this whole thread.

And thats one reason why I never give my boarding stub to the crew when they take my coat. Not only because they usually tear it on the coathanger, but because I want to be sure I get it back, just incase ... [:)]

Please add suggested wording:
Re: booking partner flights:

Arduously collect thousands and thousands of miles by being true- blue to VS, only to discover that although we allow you to use them for partner flights, there will be only a teeny tiny chance of availability for better than Y--however we will still charge you the full RT miles deduction for the highest class leg you are able to (arduously) secure even if you are unable, due to lack of availability, fly that class return. In addition we will remain unavailable for comment should you enquire re FC contact e-mail.

In addition we will be unable to credit you VS miles for partner flights on less traveled routes, requiring you to not only send in boarding passes despite your FC number being clearly denoted on said pass, which we will ignore having ever received for as long as possible.
