Just planning some future flights and it seems that literally VS have made it possible for you to now search by specific upgradable fare codes online (Y,B,L,S,W) which is an excellent improvement[y][y]

This is the page I am looking at it seems it through a link in the flying club section

Ah, this is good news. It means they must be making progress on backend systems which means we'll be able to tap into that on V-Flyer soon (and maybe get access to all the codes, including awards buckets).

Pete, sounds like some more unique features that can be made available to subscribers.

Good step... all they need to do now is make it possible to book e.g. an L and upgrade with miles all online.

It's a good start.

Now they just need to let you be able to mix and match fare classes.

I want to book S outbound from EWR to LHR and K on the return so I can use miles to upgrade on the outbound flight, but it won't let me, so I'll still have to give them a ring.

Fair point aft 1981 but still so much better than having nothing. I'm fortunate to have enough miles for a return flight upgrade so I'm going to be booking online S class both ways and then call them up to finish things off. Will save me plenty of time on the phone. Can't wait to be able to do the whole upgrade with miles online though. One day but well done VS in getting this far

In some ways, even though I know it's a pain in this day and age, I quite like calling the premier team and rattling off the details for an S class fare - they're always such lovely people and always have a laugh about how I know exactly what I want. (This is assuming that I get transferred to the UK team rather than the US group - who are always very professional but never seem quite as able to loosen up as their British counterparts.)

Good move by VS.

However, it can't cope with open jaws like the main booking engine can, so I'd probably still have to do that over the phone, I guess.

What would be cool is that if you're logged into Flying Club, it offers you a bucket list either by default, or if you select an 'expert mode' in your FC preferences.

As I have never used mileage for an upgrade, can someone answer this?

If I buy sale an 'L' class econmony fare, I will earn say 6500 miles and 4TP for a return to JFK. If I then use 20,000 miles to upgrade to PE, do I still earn the TP and 6500 ish miles?

Thanks

Yes, you still earn miles and TP's for your original booking class. Only full mile rewards and M+M fares do not earn miles or TP's. One thing to note however is that the miles/TP's won't automatically go in to your account like on normal bookings, but if you just give FC a call after your flight they add them there and then and they appear in your account instantly.
