For some reason today i received am invite to take out the Virgin Atlantic Bank Of America Amex card. But as a non resident or American citizen i am not eligible, so why invite me [?]

However what i thought was very interesting was the rewards they give out over the UK card from MBNA.

'You will receive 20,000 Flying Club miles after your first purchase made with your Virgin Atlantic Card. 7,500 anniversary Flying Club miles will be posted to your Flying Club account when you spend a minimum of $15,000 in net purchases within the anniversary year with your Virgin Atlantic Card. An additional 7,500 anniversary Flying Club miles will be awarded when you spend $25,000 in net purchases within the anniversary year with your Virgin Atlantic Card.

If you spend $25,000 in Net Purchases using your Virgin Atlantic Card within a year the primary Cardmember will also qualify for an Economy companion reward ticket for half the standard miles of a reward economy seat, maximum one reward companion ticket per year. You must pay flight related taxes, fees and charges relating to the complimentary reward flight.

You will earn one (1) tier point for every $2,500 spent with the Virgin Atlantic Airways Card. A maximum two (2) tier points can be earned per month. A maximum of twenty-four (24) tier points can be earned per year.

You will receive 2,500 Flying Club miles for each of the first two authorized users added to your Card.'

Plus 1.5 miles per $ spent or 3 miles per $ spent with Virgin (Black Card0 and the annual fee only $90

Shame here in the UK we don't get the same benefits, anniversary miles for staying loyal now that's a great idea, tier points as well would save having to do that last minute mileage run!

Sharing your frustration, chumba.

There was a long, long, long discussion about it here, when it was all first announced.
