Just a quick update for anyone considering buying the Bose QC2's.

Some of you will know (from a previous post I made some time ago) that my QC2's had been playing up a little. Sound quality was fine, noise cancelling worked, BUT every time I move my head or the ear-cups come into contact with anything (back of seat, etc), they "click" - it's difficult to explain, but VERY annoying.

Anyway, on advice from here, I wrote to Bose. Bearing in mind that mine were bought around 2 years ago and the unit only comes with a 1-year limited warranty.

After 2/3 back-and-forward emails with proof of purchase/serial no. info, etc, I've just received a response.

They're sending me a brand new pair, immediately, for me to collect when I'm back in the US next month - to exchange for my existing ones. No charge, no small-print, just excellent service [y][y][y]

They haven't asked for the existing ones back first, just that I return them when I pick the new ones up. Wow. 10/10, Bose! :D

Paul

I can also attest to Bose's customer service - I had a similar problem and out of warranty had a no quibble offer for a new pair to replace them. Good company, quality products and quality service - but then we should expect that for the prices they charge!

I do like BOSE but they are overpriced. End of story. Anyway, my list:
SENNHEISER NC Headphones (IMHO just as good as Bose for 1/4 price)
iPOD
PSP
Portable DVD Player and selection of films
All relevant paperwork (obviously)

New additions:
V-Flyer lapel pin
V-Flyer luggage tags on my hand luggage (Actually I did have some of the original ones - 'I Prefer It On Top' 'AMEX Platinum is so yesterday' and 'I Prefer the Point Bit', so they have been knocked about a bit so glad of the new ones.

As much as I love and impressed with the BOSE headphones there is no way I can justify the £280 ... would much rather buy spend the money shopping. My brother has some of the Sennheiser ones, so going to borrow them for my next trip, and then if any good buy some for myself.

Exactly. Mine cost me about £170 when I got them in the US, and it seems I managed to get 2 for the price of 1 ;):D

But then you are lucky. You could buy 2 sennheisers for that price and keep one in reserve and assume their customer service is not up to the same standards as BOSE.

umm... I think I'll stick with my QC2's.

My basis being that you don't buy two cars just in case one breaks down - you buy one backed by good service & support in the first place ;)

Indeed. But perhaps it maybe more accurate to say that not everyone wants (or is able) to buy a Bentley, but they still get a good level of service and comfort from their BMW. My sennheissers lost a cable from the earpiece. I sent them off, and a new set was back withing a week. Not bad service, although I admit not up to the incredible service of bose which was commented on earlier in the post. But for me, I am happy to pay half the price and forego the incredible service in favour of good service. Of course for keeping my money I have to also put up with(IMHO) a very slightly lesser performance. But like all things in life, you pays your money and makes your choice - Bose[y][y][y][y][y] but a high price, or sennheisser [y][y][y][y] but a more affordable price.

Absolutely agree with your point, 99 - I can't remember the post, but actually pointed someone to the Sennheisers recently. (Just not sure I'd go to the extent of buying two pairs in case one broke ;))

If you don't use them enough, or the £299 (at a push, £170 in the US) price tag just can't be swallowed, then they're an excellent choice.

Couldn't you disagree with me, just the once, just to humour me. We havenÕt had a really good un-edifying argument on the site for a little while now[}:)];)

Dave,
Amazing how those cards attract attention, eh? Thanks very much for handing them out. In fact, will buy you a drink while in LAS (though I'm certain you could get free drinks anywhere in town!).

As for me, I can't go anywhere now without my Bose QC2 headphones, my IPOD (yes, even I now have one -- Mr. Fuddy Duddy himself bought an IPOD), medicines (concealed in UCS amenity kit bags, useful for just about everything, I've found), one good book, several magazines for longer flights, my writing journal (to work on TRs, of course!). Too much stuff, I know.

An enjoyable thread. Thanks much, vizbiz.

In all the years IÕve been flying I still take too much with me onboard, I donÕt know why but I guess IÕm worried in case I get there and find my luggage didnÕt leave home turf. So these are the things I canÕt immediately survive without.

Must have make-up essentials bagÉ wonÕt be seen dead without my black eyeliner, mascara and lippy
Pack of No7 makeup remover sheets, for a clean up when I wake up looking like Alice Cooper
Spare contact lenses Ð I wear Ôextended wearÕ and have never had cause to change them mid-month yet but thereÕs always a first time.
Eye drops Ð to stop my eyes getting dry
Specs Ð just in case my eyes get too dry
Sunglasses Ð for when I get off the flight into that beautiful California sunshine
Mini Disk player and earphonesÐ maybe IÕll get an ipod soon but still love my mini disk.
Book
V- Book (and a spare for the crew to nick)
Magazine
ETickets printouts, vouchers, printed copy of ÔThe spreadsheetÕ (details itinery and all booking refs, whether paid or not, which CC we paid with) Hubby keeps copy on his P900. I keep all these in a travel wallet.
Molton Brown travel bag with mini toiletries
Decleor Ð Aromessence Baume Essentiel
Lavender pulse point gel to help me relax (yeah like the bubbly doesnÕt do that)
Hairbrush
Boiled sweets
Mints
Medication
Jewellery pouch
Laptop
CD for the limo transfersÉ you should hear the stuff they provide .. yikes!
Camera

All packed neatly into my Mezzi aluminium roller case.

Coffin case handbag with:-

Foreign cash, travellers cheques and CCs
Passports and boarding cards

Think thatÕs about it but invariably some other ÔessentialÕ items will make their way in there.

It is true what they say, the first time you dont take something with you is the only the time you will need it :).

I always take a bottle of water with me as well to drink once I arrive at my destination. Yeah OK I know you get these in UC but I always end up drinking these before we land.

If you are going to NAS dont bbother with your mobile phone as it wont work, as no UK networks have roaming agreements in the Bahamas as of yet.

Hmm, resisted this one but here goes:

Asprey travel wallet all the right size for tickets, boarding cards etc.
Flying Club card for hotels etc.
Air miles card for Travellex points
Dollars or Euros and every other denomination I still have stuck in the travel wallet (what do I do with Krona and Zlotys ...)
Travel diary from Louis with lots of little pockets for receipts, memorable places and notes
iPod
Sennheiser NC headphones - or if room the Bose QC2
iPod extra battery
Camera
Temazapam
Neurofen (always comes in handy after too many hours at the bar [:0])
Vanity Fair, or Conde Naste Traveller (and I leave with Carlos!)
My own eye shade
Spectacles to change from lenses mid way through flight when the dryness kicks in
Mobe
Valuables - rings, watches, cufflinks and stuff in case suitcase goes AWOL (touch wood, never happened yet!)
Sunglasses - to wear when stepping out at Miami or LA or wherever!
Wine notes book, to scribble comments on the current selection
Wallet and credit cards natch

All in a joey bag with my V-flyer tag on it!

Don't take books, just listen to music and watch skymap then fall into champagne enhanced slumber!

Well, if everyone else is fessing up...

PDA-fone + portable keyboard + charger
paracetamol
boxers, light shirt and socks (In case luggage goes awol)
Loads of su doko + pencil and rubber
NR headphones + spare batteries
dog breath pills
nicotine pills (+ spare nicotine pills, + 2 x emergency backup + an extra pack in case we crash on a desert island)
2 x 33cl bottle of red plonk if in Y or S (VS can be a bit stingy by my excessive standards)

Never work (too slovenly) so no PC or such like.

The Rear Admiral fills up any spare space, then takes and extra small suit case herself.
