Despite being English have been brought up with philosphy of rewarding for service where deserved.

About to have my first CH visit and I was wondering if tipping is expected given the complimentary nature of the CH.

Apologies if this is a topic covered previously

I wouldnt say tipping is expected but many V-Flyers so tip for treatment, shoes, hair etc and in the restuarant. So go stocked with some 1 coins and the odd fiver and you will be fine.

TBH I never really thought about tipping in the CH (or any airline lounge) but I have always thanked the staff for whatever they have done to/for me.

If a staff member has provided exceptional service an email to VS customer services wouldn't go amis.

Pretty much as HackneyGuy has said. I've never tipped the waiting staff but always the shoeshine man and the cowshed employees.

In the BA lounge at JFK I had a really good massage and facial and the guy had obviously worked pretty hard so I actually asked him if he was allowed to accept tips and then gave him 10 dollars. I felt OK doing it as I was in the US but I wouldn't really think of it in the UK. Will see what happens in November though.

I am with HG here. I tip in the CH when I get good service.
Given the reaction of some of the staff when they get a tip, it certainly doesn't seem to be the norm, but that may make it appreciated more.

We seem to have talked about this many time. but I can only immediately find this thread. I am sure there are others though. [:D]

I always tip a fiver to the Bumble & Bumble hair salon. You are getting a free haircut.

I always tip 5 for a massage, drinks it depends on the service. I am ashamed to say last time I was there I had no change, and the service was very very good.

Been there and done that too. Had a quick trip down the stairs of the LHR Clubhouse to the foot where a travelex clerk swiped my card and gave me some readies which I departed to the bootshine guy, hairdresser (after my one and only treatement EVER) and the very attentive bar man. [y]
