kkempton,
That looks really neat. Will have to delve in when I have some more free time. Thanks for this!

Where can I find out what some of the ATC jargon means?

As a matter of interest pre 9/11 i flew United and as part of their new seat back IFE there was an audio channel for ATC. Do they still have this or have this been removed as a security issue?

I have a feeling that the live ATC was removed, but I am not totally sure. I haven't listened to channel 9 for a long time...;)

Cheers,

In terms of the UA ATC channel, yes, it's still operating - although "at the Captain's discretion"...

Spookily, you can use the above link to log on to the Tornoto ATC, and then specify yesterday at 16:00 local for a 30 minute period - you even get a weather radar map of the area.

You can hear ATC diverting people, commenting on the fact that "a plane has slid off the end of the runway". They're all very calm and collected on the ATC, however right after it happens you can hear shouting in the background as the s**t hits the fan.

Given no one was injured I thought I'd post this.

Vizbiz,
Fascinating; as you say, perhaps "spookily" so. Yes, thankfully no one was injured.

Thanks for the extra bit of reporting.

So at what time exactly was this?

It's about 4 or 5 minutes in to the 1600 recording. You don't hear the AF aircraft (though I imagine you would if you went back to the 1530 to 1600 recording).
