Feel it's a pity Virgin doesn't have more partners. As far as I'm aware, it doesn't have links with any of the supermarkets, for example - please correct me if I'm wrong![?]

Regretfully you're unlikely to find people agreeing with you here. That would mean that people who never actually flew VS could collect miles and use up valuable reward stock - something Virgin's actual customers would hate! [8D]

I take your point, but nonetheless it's a lost opportunity. Does anyone know how this impacts for other schemes - BA miles, for example? Am sure Tesco points can be exchanged towards them. It does take a long while to accumulate enough points to be of use unless you fly pretty frequently - and if you're flying someehere Virgin doesn't service. Twice in the last year I've been in the position of having to fly with someone else, simply for that reason and I saw both times as lost revenue - for me!

I am with Decker, lets keep VS rewards primarily for Virgin fliers. There are already plenty of ways to amass a big balance of FC points through credit cards / casinos / wine buying etc. etc. without adding shoppers as well.

BA have a lot more planes and a lot more routes, so they can soak up the extra pax far better than VS.

Flights, wines ok. Casinos ok, if you gamble - but I don't. Plenty of other ways? What are they? This isn't meant to be inflammatory, but what other ways are there that are passing me by? Apart from the FC credit card, which I already have and use. May well be that I'm being a total Luddite here......[:I]

Hotel stays, car hire, buying a car, hot air balooning, duty free shopping, buying fuel, going on a cruise, dining...

But sorry, no supermarkets!

Thank John. But damn and blast, car is a lease..... now that seems to be a biggie.... think it might be worth switching from the SUnday Times wine club though. Then again, I get airmiles through my card for that - are there bonus miles on Virgin wines? I don't have a thing about supermarkets (honestly!), it was the first example that popped into my mind.

ISTBC, but you can Buy a car through virgin cars and get some miles. So its not just leasing.

I don't gamble (except playfully through the meadows - or is that gambol) either. But judging from the gambling thread here, you don't actually need to risk loosing anything. So by my book, that is not a gamble.

Of course JAT74L missed the real biggie, miles collection wise. Complaints to VS CS are earn 5/10k each these days - what me a cynic?

Yes I did miss the real biggie - I complained about only being given one choice of meal in PE recently and got fobbed off with not even an explanation never mind any miles!!

Hell No! complain again and your certain to get your 5k. Unless of of course they have been listening to us, in which case they will have cut fobbing us off with bribes; only thing is I think we also wanted them to seriously address the issues.[V]

You can earn miles at supermarkets, just use your Virgin Credit Card or your AmEx MR linked card - then you will

TBH - I don't think it will be long before AmEx introduces its double MR poitns for everyday spend such as that at petrol stations and supermarkets (like they do in the US) - then you have a great value proposition.

That is what I do - far better than messing around with Nectar points which have a significantly lower rate of return in regards to rewards.

If you want to collect big miles from supermarkets then it has to be tesco and BA,they have some crazy deals from time to time.We will have earned over 300k in the last 9 months,thats 2 first class USA returns or 4 with a couple of Amex 241 vouchers.

What are these please?

They are one of the main perks of the Amex BA premium plus credit card issued once per year after you have spent £10k on the card.They give you 2 flights for 1 on a reward booking,150k miles plus the voucher gets you 2 first class USA returns.

You send the Clubcard vouchers to BA who convert £2.50 to either 600 or 800 miles depending on what type of clubcard account you held in the past.Any new sign ups are converted at the 600 rate.Haven't got the address here but all the details are on flyertalk(site seems to be down at the moment.)

I see JAT74L lists duty free shopping as one of the ways to earn miles, I never knew that, how do you do go about it, do you hand over your FC card onboard the aircraft, is it just a matter of using your Virgin CC or can you claim miles some other way[ii]

Hi the laceys. This may help;). AFAIR, you can buy FC points for £1 each and they throw in the booze and fags for free on a pro-rata basis. (my stupid way of saying you get a point for each pound you spend)

In addition to the other info - you can only earn miles on duty free by pre-ordering - and only then if it's over £20 per leg. Shopping on board doesn't count. Have a look at this FAQ entry which should explain more (and more about the other ways of earning miles too) .

Depending, of course, on how you use your miles.

Nectar points are worth .5p each of the price of any fare available with ebookers. In some cases e.g. cheap economy flights to the East Coast you can actually get better value than using miles. Forget it for any other class of tickets though - Nectar points are good for shorthaul though.
