Hi all,
Another one of those questions that has probably been exhaused on here pre my joining!

I currently have 3 tier points to gain before I reach SILVER. My hubby and i want to use our points next year on a free UC flight..if i used points for this does this then mean that I lose my SILVER membership?

Please advise me on how i maintain my silver?

AFAIK no tier point earned on flights for miles. But I think you can book the reward flight for your husband and book the revenue flight for yourself if you need the TPs to retain silver

Miles are used for free flights
Tier Points are used to decide what level you are.

When you get a free flight the mileage will be deducted from your account but the tier points will be there for the 13 month period in which they were earned.

I think that's what you mean anyway [:?]

Yes, you will not lose any tier points earned for any reward flights taken. If you make silver this year, you will need to earn 10 tier points in the next 13 month period to allow you to keep silver.

If you need 2 UC flights return flights one for you and one for your husband. Then I assume you intend to pay for 1 flight as a reward using miles and to pay for the other ? If that is the case then in order to retain your silver status, you should use the miles to book your husbands flight and pay for yours, so that you earn the tier points.

Hi, forgive me if I have got it wrong, but it sounds like you could do with some info on miles and Tier Points TP's. You get both when you fly on a Purchased Ticket in most classes. Miles, as R&G said, are like money, you can save them up and spend them on goodies such as free flights, upgrades, hotel stays, car hire, what ever... You also get awarded TP's, which as they accumulate move you up through the status ladder. When you book a reward, it reduces your miles, but does nothing to yout TPs

Check This Out for TP info

The Virgin Guides don't explain this area very well. It is really easy to get confused as to "qualifying years" and with issues like TP's clearing down to nil when you move status (which they don't). This Thread may help
