The union has announced that it is going to strike "selected" areas and systems, at least for now. That may change if there's no deal, but at least right now, there should be no disruption in subway or major MTA bus services.

Yes, sadly they're all out this morning. I'm scrambling to make alternate arrangements for travel this week should the strike last until Thursday.

Word to the wise: If anyone is heading to NYC area in the next 10 days, suggest you phone ahead to figure out the best arrangements for avoiding travel into and out of NYC proper. Only car pools of 4 or more pax are allowed into the center of the city, on bridges and through tunnels while this strike carries on.

NJ transit still works! Oh, is this another reason to fly into EWR? I think so.

Scheduled on the VS10 tonight. Originally had a car service booked for 6.30pm but brought it forward t0 4 as a precaution. Sadly or not the journey from midtown got me to JFK in 1hr, little different from normal. See my 0ther post for what happened next!

The city seemed strangley quiet today with 5th and Madison being shut down to all but coaches from out of town and Emergency vehicles. An emtpy 5th ave is something to behold. Maybe lots of people stayed awaty from work, I don't really know.

Union leader had all the subtle qualities of Red Robo for British Leyland fame several years ago so no great surprise that a strike happened.

I did lots of walking today to keep me fit! My pedometer measured 18500 or therabouts!

Just saw the news, the transport union says that thursday is the earliest that the strike will end, but warns that it may go past friday. Apparently this strike will cost NYC about 1.3 billion dollars each week it is kept up. And because it's prime time for christmas shopping, the retailers are being hurt too.

Lots of gridlock!
