Sorry! I think this is a step back. The font is too small. Its hard to move forward or backward a page on Android. Its style over substance. Sorry but I hate it. Not user friendly..... I can feel the knives in my back as I type!

I don't have an Android to check, but in theory that should be using the small screen layout so it would be 100% better than the old (non-responsive) version. Forward & back buttons are a function of your browser, so that's not something which should have changed. And as the forums use much more of the real estate available for actual content, I can't accept it's a step back.

Bottom line, this was an update that had to happen for two reasons. Most importantly was because the old code required an old version of PHP which was holding back other projects hosted on the server, so it had to be updated anyway. The reason for choosing a new 'responsive' style was because of changes to Google which penalise site that aren't mobile-friendly. This is by no means a style-over-substance change just for the sake of it. I may have taken the opportunity to polish up the UI in the upgrade, but the core of the changes are to the system which actually drives the site.

It's been over a year in development, and at many times along the way I've gone back to the moderating team and site members to check their feedback (and not in the way that Virgin say 'after extensive customer feedback' just before cutting something like the amenity kit either). Sorry to hear you hate it, but thankfully you appear to be in a minority.

Hey Pete, I think the site looks and feels great. Change always takes time to get used to and some will not give it a chance.

I have one question: on my iPhone I don't seem to be able to find the 'active' forums...clearly user error but I have tried and failed. Any ideas?

I must admit it has taken me a while to get used to it but honestly how rude are you !
As I understand it Pete does all this pretty much as a labour of love and if it were me I would be throwing my arms in the air and asking the question ' why do I bother '

Thanks for restoring the status updates page, I really find it useful especially when travelling. ☺

As an Android user, I've not had any navigational issues and knowing how much 'fun' it can be to code a phpbb board, it looks great.

It's not just you. ;-) Signature lines don't display on the phone version in order to save on space.

All the 787s have been added to the database, we're just not seeing status updates for all of them (I should probably look into that...).

The new topic button should be at the top of the page on the left when you're at the forum level.

On IOS, Is there any way of clicking a button to navigate to the next page when in a post. E.g this post has five pages and the only way I can see is to click the "page 4 of 5" which presents me with a input text box. I then have to type 5 and click ok.

I am sure I am doing something wrong here.

Oh and a very small bug I found - when you click the plus button on the forum page against a post and it displays how many posts there are, who last posted etc. the last posted datetime is GMT and not BST.

That's because you haven't turned on BST on your Board Preferences. Go to Home and then User Control Panel and then the Board Preferences tag. Scroll down and you will see a box to check for BST. Click it and Submit.

Nope I couldn't figure that one out either... I assume it is just part of the new navigation for mobile devices.

This one now sorted. By default it's a jump box to save space on small screens, but I've edited the template to drop in a small 'Prev' 'Next' link at the bottom of the page when viewing on an iPhone.

Hi Pete

Loving the new look :D

When viewing I usually click on the last post button. When using an iPad I seem to be viewing a lot of profiles lol. Anyway of making the button a little bigger for us big finger folk ?

Thanks

All very nice, but I do have one request for consideration by the jury: would it be possible to have any link I click on open a new window rather than use the one I am in please?

Why on earth would you want to do that? After a few minutes your desktop would be littered with a ton of windows.

However if you really want to do that, simply right-click your mouse and use the 'open in new tab/window' option (depending on your browser).

Thank you very much. This is excellent. I think this is fine in terms of space on the iPhone. In fact, I'd even suggest duplicating it at the top too (but I'll leave that one to your good judgement)
