I am sure many of you feel my pain!
I've got my outbound reward seat booked (LGW-MCO) and have been checking in multiple times (day and night!) for my return leg to pop up (LAX-LHR)
Everyday, like clockwork, VA have released a new day/new reward seats but when I was right on the cusp of 'my day' being released, it just stopped!
I know patience is a virtue but I just needed to vent ;-)

VS do this on a regular basis - change when they release reward seats. Makes it more random than the BA system which releases them at 1AM!

Doing similar myself, managed to get UC reward seats to Miami next February but could only get PE for return
in March, will be checking regularly between now & return flight to get 2 x UC seats on return flight,

I know exactly how you feel.
I posted a similar thread trying to get my return from MCO for next March back in April.
They were releasing a day at a time, then all of sudden 'no flights in March. Choose another month' came up.
Er no. You've already given me my ticket out there and I want to come home.
Eventually I changed routes and bagged a return G from ATL at 10K miles cheaper.

Best of luck in your quest.

What do you do, book just a one-way reward while waiting and hoping for the return reward to come up separately? isnt there a risk that nothing will come up, meaning you need to pay (money!) for the return flight? Or do you book for example, UC out, PE back and then keep looking to be able to upgrade from there? Sorry, not something I'd thought about before reading this thread....

Normally I buy a return upgrade-able economy tickets and then search for upgrades.
For next year with the massive hike in miles required for upgrades and the fact I had enough miles it made more sense to go for full reward tickets.
Because we will be away for a month it made sense to grab the outbound when it was first issued, then stalk the website for the return. Worst case scenario we'd have to take a lower cabin but we managed 2 Gs back from Atlanta which is actually closer to our holiday destination than Orlando so it has all worked out.

Also, though I don't think I have benefited, there have been those who have ended up paying less tax for two single bookings than a return.

I admire your patience and dogged determination with searching for these flights. It would drive me loopy. But when the seats pop up it must be a a great feeling!

Luckily I am relatively flexible with my dates so have, so far, managed to secure flights that suit without having to endure such daily torture :-O

And not intending to gloat (well not much ;-) ) last night I booked for next year returns to Japan in BA First. For a bargain £533. So very happy with that.

Fingers crossed they release your desired seats soon.

Gloat away! You're entitled to do so for such a good price!

Just wanted to update that I now have booked the reward seats I wanted :)
I will add that the return flight NEVER appeared as available on the VA website and still hasn't, even though I know for a fact that there is still at least 1 PE reward seat still available
I called flying club to see if they could shed any light as to why the website didn't seem to be updating and when they looked for me, they could see reward seats available
Moral is, it's worth calling even if nothing is showing on the website
Oh, and the VA team member combined my return flight with the outbound I had already booked so that helped with the taxes/fees cost :) I don't think they can do this if you book the flight separately on line but if you call they can do it
