I can swear that they weren't there in SFO 2 weeks ago, but yesterday afternoon after passing through security (I won't digress to say how annoying this is, or how useless they are as I had completely forgotten I had some empty bullet shells in my coat pocket, not that they noticed), I started seeing some new US VISIT kiosk machines, dotted around the place in pairs, and some at the top of each gate area. No indication had been given to me that I needed to use them, but being inquisitve I asked, and was asked to follow the process at the machine:

scan in passport, type in flight number, left index finger scan, right index finger scan, and then a receipt is printed out.

Anyone else seen these at any other terminals?

I can scan in my receipt if anyone is interested.

Strange thing is that many people were walking past blissfully unaware, I would of thought the two atendants manning the kiosk machines would have sheperded the departing passengers through, but that would be too easy.

Thanks,
Richard

They've been there for over a year, but live about 9 months ago. (other threads on it here too... ;))

The only change in the last month has been the software upgrade that allows you to select a language and type in a flight number.

I've got about 10/11 receipts out of them from SFO at home - I use it every time, as it provides a useful piece of evidence that you left the country, should you need one...!

Hi Richard,

The machines were there when I flew out of SFO back in October. I didn't notice them at first, but an announcement was made asking passengers to use them, which we did.

A few people on our flight didn't notice them or even hear the announcements, so not really sure what purpose they serve, unless they are just on trial.

Richard.

Actually - just found another thread here from May. ;)

Most of us used them when we left from SFO in November, too.

Duh - I must be going blind then.

Intersting that VS are not actively telling customers to use them though.

Thanks,
Richard

4 were in the satellite at mco, looking very new and shiny, with no one paying any attention what so ever. That included the attendants !

They weren't there in July.[?]

I've not used them at all, and I've probably visited the US 7 or 8 times in the past 6 months. More than that, no one has mentioned it to me either! I'll keep an eye out at Dulles in a couple of weeks time, but I didn't see any machines (although I wasn't looking) in December.

BC: Did not see them this morning at Dulles getting off DL and do not remember seeing them in the B terminal when I working for Indy.

When flying Indy from SFO out of the A gates I remember hearing PAs to use the departure kiosk.

Once saw DHS scanning the recipit the kiosk gives with a finger scanner while people were boarding in CO for HKG IIRC.

Well I was over in Seattle a acouple of weeks ago, and it is a time honoured tradition to visit the Gun Range (http://www.wadesguns.com) near campus. Word got out, and soon there was a sizeable party wanting to go shooting for the afternoon. So we descended on the place, and took over four lanes, each with a different gun. Great fun!

Of course I kept my targets and a couple of used shells for souvenirs for my office at work.

Thanks,
Richard
