Can VS Golds book a seat when flying internatiDelta Economy?

I have a Delta Basic Economy flight (transatlantic) booked for 2 weeks time. Was booked direct on Delta during a sale.

I'm Virgin Lifetime Gold, and wondered if I can book a seat using that status, rather than wait for the check in gamble. No option online to do it, with my VS account linked, but... worth a phone call?

Fairly sure the answer is no, as even having status with DL doesn't get you anything with their Basic Economy unfortunately.
