I've seen it mentioned on here before that it is hard to get a reward UC seat on the Vegas service, because the UC config on the LGW 744 has only a small UC section.

Is it 'hard' or 'impossible'?

I don't know about LGW - LAS but we managed to get an UC reward LAS - LGW last week for the end of Feb.

So not impossible

Definately not impossible, but you need to book early as is the same with the some of the other LGW routes

Both onionz and I managed it last year for the V-Flyer Vegas bash so it's not impossible.

And a number of others flew into LAX and took short flights to LAS from there.

Okay.. that's encouraging. We'll be going early November 06.. (conference)

Looking at the moment, the site is not giving me any availability. When do they open up award seats? How many months in advance..?

Any availability from where? To where?

You might consider booking an upgradeable ticket, then using miles to upgrade when/if availability opens up.

Reward fares are loaded into the VS system pretty much at the same time as revenue fares I think, so if there are any, looks like they have already gone. Just see if there are any PE or Econ rewards available at the time you want to fly. that should give you a better idea.

Edit - I just tried and there are PE reward flights available in early November LGW>LAS, so the reward inventory is there for November.

hmm... wanted J rewards, and can't find any...

Ach well.. I'll just do LHR-LAX instead, and get a connecting flight.

The internal flight will be slightly longer and a little more expensive, but why not go via SFO? That way you get a CH on the wayback. ;)[8D]

Mmmm... okay! SFO it is.... (Which sounds like a good plan, as the last time I was in LAX I was surprised at what a grotty airport it is...)

Good tip from Nick... The Air Canada lounge at LAX is OK but the airside terminal is rubbish!

How about a couple of nights in SFO too? It's a GREAT city!

Supplementary question...

To speed up searches for reward flights, are there any tools to show uptodate listings of reward availability for each flight number against date.. ie. to see all dates for a specific flight number, and availability for each date.

AFAIK only FC staff can do this type of search. If you give them a ring, they are usually very helpful.

I've been following the reward seat availability for the LAS-LGW flight's and from what I am seeing you have to be very lucky to get one,in the end it's not worth the headache, when I book my flight's in...oh 12 days i'll check, but I have a feeling we will be going through SFO.

Mmm.. thanks.

FINAL question!

I see that from March to April next year, VS003 and VS045 swap time-slots... does that mean they swap planes? ie. does VS003 stay a 744, regardless of whether it is the 1400 flight, or the 0930 flight?

Off the top of my head I can think of only a couple of times i've seen a VS airbus out here,so im pretty sure it would stay a 744 unless an aircraft goes tech at the last minute.

No, the VS045 is 38% 346 according to v-flyer... most recently 28 Dec 05 was a 346...

I think there's some confusion here - VS045 ISN'T a Vegas flight, they are VS043/44. Dave's right in saying it's very rare that an Airbus flies the Vegas route. The flights you mention - VS003 and VS045 - are both LHR-JFK.

The reward availability in J is an odd one. With a week or so to go before my LGW-LAS flight on Xmas day, two reward seats in J opened up and remained so up to the day of departure. This was a very busy flight, but either no-one grabbed them or they kept two available because the J cabin remained fairly empty - either way the J cabin was full on the day.

No I'm not confused... I'm also booking a flight to New York in April/May.... :)

EDIT - I guess I should have started a new thread to ask about the NY route.. [:I]

sorry my fault as well, didn't look at the flight numbers before answering the question [:I],my guess with the 2 G seats is that..well to be honest whoever was thinking about up grading by then had given up and booked to LAX-SFO and nobody bothered to look [?]
