There have been a number of reports of gaming being offered by airlines on the IFE systems.

My understnading that there could be casino games as well as pub type fruit machines and trivia games.

Would anyone like th chance of winning some cash during the flight?

Or can anyone see reasons why this may be a bad idea?

Being trapped inside an A/C for upto 13 hours could be the downfall of a few seasoned gamblers!!! [}:)]

However, for the majority, I agree it can only add to the the benefits of the current IFE..;)

Yes please for me!! :D

Money making idea !

I guess it woudn't be available until the aircraft was over International waters to avoid individual countries casino laws etc ...

In some American States gambling is illegal hence the casino cruises off the Florida coast !

The cost may well be high as assuming that they charged your Credit Card for chips etc there would need to be a direct link to authorise the card from the aircraft !

That's unless you could pre order prior to departure, and then tap in a pin number to gain access to a bank of chips !

Either way the info would have to up loaded to the aircraft in one form or another.

Technically it might be possible as the LHR aircraft (And some Gatwick Aircraft) already have the ability to call from the seat at a very high cost which suggests that the air to ground link is already there.

Sounds like a great idea - especially as Virgin now have Virgin Games.

But what about a real casino? Maybe on the A380 The Bearded One will look into putting a real casino onboard...

I'm happy I wasn't playing for real money... I got the £1,000,000 quetion wrong on Who Wants to be a Millionaire on my last flight a couple of weeks ago!!![:$]

Still if it had've been real money maybe I would've stuck at half a mil! [|:)]

Bad idea, while it may generate income for the airline it will ruin someones vacation.

As to the full casino on board, wont happen, those machines and tables take up to much space, weigh to much, are not a 100% sure thing on the revenue side.

What would happen if say a machine goes tech during the flight?

If say the plane lands at LAX,someone comes on board to fix it,they pay you after the machine is reset, who pays the fine for using a class III machine in CA?

Just way to many hassles, sounds good to the press and is a good way to get the VS name out there, but wont happen in practice.

How about gambling with miles in your FF account:D You may win enough miles for an upgrade on your return flight

But AmEx transfers only take seconds and cell phone calls are free for him!

But Dave, Would you be up to chair the gaming action at VS?

Sidebar: A certian airline that flew IAD-LAS had a game where passenagers would write there seat number on a one dollar bill and place it in a trash bag that the FAs would walk down the aisle with. Then the FA would ask for a kid to pick out the dollar and read off the seat number. The person who's seat number got picked got all the money in the bag, normally $80.00. This was not 'offical' policy to do this but was done by the most junior to senior people.

In fact I'm gonna start a new thread on that one!
