I don't know about everyone else, but I really treasure the time on board a flight, in that let's me either work without distraction (relatively speaking), or kick-back and enjoy a film, book etc.

The Times at the weekend mentioned that VAA are considering enabling passengers to be able to use their mobiles during a flight. I am one of those people who get irritated by being subjected to other people's phone calls (if I can't move somewhere else) - it seems that the worst offenders are also the owners of the loudest most penetrating voices. Also, it's usually men.

How do you feel about being subjected to one of those "...Hi... I'm on the plane..."calls - when you can't move to another carriage, part of the bar etc? Even the railways have "mobile-free" carriages...

This subject has been well covered here and here. I think the majority of us are in the 'no thanks' camp.

Thanks,
Sarah

Hmmm, odd - I searched before posting (searched for "mobile" - in ALL topics) and it only returned a single topic about duty free mobiles. Must be missing something obvious...[?]

Could be the fact that you only searched within the last 120 days rather than changing the function to 'within the last year'.

Interesting point as I only updated the main Mobile Phone thread by Atlantic Flyer yesterday - I guess the search engine is only looking at the date a thread was started if you choose "subject"

Well it is pretty much a mute point now...the FCC just banned the use of cell phones..again...crushed the idea of being able to use the things in flight [y][^]

Of course the reason given wasn't the fact that as we know turning on your phone can cause a 744 to spiral out of control..[:w] which is the FAA's point of view.

But because there was "insufficient technical information" available on whether airborne cell phone calls would jam networks on the ground.

Indeed - hopefully they won't suddenly receive sufficient technical information..
