Having been fortunate to have used the UCS on about a dozen trips I decided to try the new CX product recently.
Quick comparison.
UCS is better for
1) Armrests one either side and storage space. Try and find your CX inflight magazine. Its not easy!
2) Small white drinks table in better position.
3) Leather seat
4) Look and feel of cabin
5) Foot stool The wife can easily have dinner with me at same seat using this. On CX I could not even sit on it as so small.
CX is better for.
1) VOD system is excellent and monitor is very large albeit not as adjustable as VS screen.
2) Massage feature on the seat very nice.
3) Worse - Badly located armrest not very comfortable.
4) Noise cancelling headphones very good
Overall
UCS is still the best. [y] This is even more so after CX advised me that as I was traveling with a 22 month old and they did not allow infants to be strapped in on their new business class seats during take off and landing I was escorted to a economy seat. Not a pleasant experience being cooped in with an active child for 30 minutes each time.[n]
Wonder what they would have done if Y was full? Was going to try their new First class seat next month but not prepared to take the risk of being downgraded to Y from F. Instead am on the new VS238 service.
Still a few days later not sure how junior can travel safely as he has done three times in UCS suit with mum yet on similar shaped and designed CX seats they dont allow and seem to feel he is safer in a cramped seat with dad in economy.
Anyway well done Virgin UCS after 4 years of being implemented still beats new CX product.
Wont comment on the new SQ seat except its great
