On the topic of the 380, does anyone have a date for Virgin taking them to the Skies?

Also, RB has mentioned gyms on board, I'm in the gym business, but I for one would prefer a drink, movie and maybe a gamble. Treadmill anyone?

Or of course take your own bottle from the sheraton skyline - preferable taken from one of your friend's mini bars.
... several times. [}:)]

Can't quite remember how much the bill was, but at £9 a can, ouch... [:w]

Ahhh, See I paid my bills last weekend and this weekend I made sure everything posted in proper order; everything went fine BTW.

There was a small charge on my run of the mill, normal man person AmEx from none other than the Sheraton Skyline. Hmmm, checked the invoice they gave me when checking out; not on there. Called the hotel and asked why. They said that there was minibar charge for nuts. I explained (Thought I took care of this when I was there) and the charge was refunded.

All in good fun and quite a good weekend and great flight home; really should write a TR before I forget. With regards to Haircut Run, slightly less crazy things have been done. DLRoger and I went to London solely for Chuck Day.

Back on topic. Maybe SQ will hint at plans for there A380s this weekend at the summit in Singapore. Would be a perfect time. As to the pods, would be a great idea for families with crying kids.

Gotta be honest, this gym thing smells like marketing running off at the mouth again, a bit like the BS from a year or two ago that there are double beds on board. I am sure that given the choice between a heavy piece of gym equipment and a revenue earning seat, I know which one would win.

Certainly the nice, airy spaces seen on the A380 promo videos are nothing but a pipe dream, unless you are the Sultan of Brunei and buy your own plane. I nearly suggested Air Force One, but somehow I can't see Uncle Sam buying Airbus in a million years!

I think I've mentioned in the past that I would appreciate a gym in the CH, as long as there was a suitable receptacle for the Champagne on the recumbent bicycle.

Cheers, Howard

OT but: New UC idea. The A346 is the worlds longest commerical plane. So set a new record. Walk a marathon onboard; with a drink in hand.

Well you could stand still and cover 26 miles in a few minutes:D:D

Seriously though how many 'laps' would that be?

Singapore Airlines have just launched a microsite for the A380 (linked from http://www.singaporeair.com) where they say the aircraft will have LESS than 480 seats (not the 488 I said earlier).

Wonder if they'll do what they've done with their A345s and only put a Premium economy cabin in the back?

All this 380 talk fills me with dread as cabin crew... How will it be boarded, how long till bags come off, What about security etc..etc..

OK in principle its great but in reality ? We wait to see and Ill stand corrected...

Will Aibus actually get round to admitting the delay in production was because they didnt calculate the full loaded weights or that there were problems with the airframe?

Gyms on board would be good but definitely not a good idea in my opinion... lets be honest exercise at a cabin altitude of 6000+ Ft and Oxygen levels being lower is not ideal, And if there was a medical emergency hardly any airports would be ready to accept the aircraft!

I guess thats why Virgin have dropped the options for the 380 and who knows maybe they will sell the other 6 firm orders (with a bit of luck)

Yeah, I've been starting to wonder whether VS would cancel their A380 orders. I know if I were an airline I would not be pleased with all of these problems that are coming up with the winter tests and stress tests. I think the A380 is a wonderful piece of engineering, but it's hard for me to imagine how nice the in flight experience will be.

I think this would be a shame. Even with the problems etc I do think this can work for VS. I have to say that the stats all point to Asia being the 'vertical' market for airline travel and I guess this is where we shall see most of these aircraft deployed.

However, heres another thought, wouldn't it be fantastic to see UCS on the Next Generation Super Sonic transaltantic aircraft. NYC in 3 hours, MCO in 4.5.

In the seat plan it shows PE as 2-2-2 on the upper deck and economy as 2-4-2. If Y is the same layout as the A343, shouldn't PE be too - or is there something we don't know about yet?

Firstly, it is guess work.

Secondly, don't forget the upper deck is narrower and I am guessing that pete took the standard seat sizes which I guess are roughly to scale and fit them in as best he could.

We shall just have to wait and see.
