PVG - LHR 28 May
Any tips for the PVG bit (Sailor?) would be appreciated. Will be staying in the IC Hotel near the airport.
John
Well, for you John, it's got to be the maglev. Catch it from the airport into town. You will then need to take a cab where ever you are going once you get off the train. Don't stay at the airport (unless there is a driving need to do so). For budget with old world charm go for the Astor house hotel (ask for General Grant's room), for old world at a higher price the peace hotel, and for high-rise luxury the grand Hyatt. For me itÕs the Astor every time, but mainly because of great memories à I arrived there in 1998 after a really rotten race, very ill and in need of some serious dental work. The hotel organised the dentist. But each floor had a lady guard to ensure you didnÕt bring in undesirables. Mine must have been at least 90, and she tucked me up in bed, fed me Chinese medicines (yuch!), and generally looked after me for about 3 days until I was back on my feet. Unfortunately when I last went there in 2005 she was no longer around.
High spots are the museum, the fake market (cheap Rolex sir?), the HSBC bank (free à and give the LionÕs balls a tickly for good luck), the museums under the pearl tower. DonÕt go up the pearl tower unless the visibility is superb à the queues are awful and the views not that good. Have a massage by a blind man à they are all over the place, and none of the massage parlours will offer you Ôextra servicesÕ (these are offered in barbers, so get you hair cut in the clubhouse!)

I'll second all that sailor says!
Just wander around and soak up the vibe. It's a mad place.
The old town is worth a visit, and is walkable west along the bund from the Peace hotel. The peace hotel is also convenient for the Bund Tourist Tunnel... A bizare experience without purpose!
Oh... but you could save yourself some money and go to Liverpool... It looks just the same! Well, around half a mile of the bund does!

WDW for Xmas/New Year in Dec
Anyone see a pattern here ?
You just have to do the Universal Halloween Nights of Horror thing when you go in October - fantastic! Did 4/7 haunted houses before had to give up and leave the park cos hurricane Wilma was blowing in pretty seriously [n]. But those parts and the Bill & Ted show were superb! Mind you I was glad I settled my nerves with a few cocktails before going in. People were running riot with chainsaws and all sorts [y]

Oh, and I almost forgot - highlight of anyone's social calendar - a trip to rock 'n' roll Bexhill on Sea in March. Not by plane, of course....[:I]
Bexhill got cancelled (all together now....awwww). Means we haven't been away or done anything since Brussels in December - when it was mightily cold and I also had a streaming cold (my bi-annual one).....
Vancouver in September..... more trips forming in the head as I write...[i]
OK, better late than never
March
Bray last week(there are only two good reasons to go, and they were both great)
Brussels this weekend
Hong Kong next week for the 7s
July
New York
Minneapolis

Edinburgh
Aberdeen
September
Rome
Milan
December
A bit of persuading to do but hopefully Oz for the cricket
plus the odd weekend here & there as the mood takes us

It's just the West Coast/Vegas/Canyons tour for me so far, though I am trying desperately to find time and money for Boston in the autumn and NYC for Christmas/New Year.
All change! Cancelled the summer one [:#] on account of being Captain Sensible money-wise, but seem to be going to Boston in 3 days. Hey, I gotta get my USA shopping fix - it's been nearly 6 months [:0] and also going to Vancouver in October half term though that's a PE reward flight so not too much dollar spent there.
Now been invited to Vilamoura with the girls from work sometime to stay in a villa owned by one of their father-in-laws...oh hell, that could be trouble [}:)]

Wow, never managed to get to a reward flight!
I knew time was drawing near for your Boston trip - are you running around like a headless chicken???

Ooh no headless chickens here at all...Little Miss Planner...I have a document wallet with tickets, passports, cash left over from last trip, V-Flyer tags, FC cards, lists of all the places to go with zip codes for the sat nav, and I've even gone to the extent of printing off the voucher for the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets so I can get my discount booklet from Guest Services

Sorted! Just got to get through the washing mountain, though no idea why I am planning on taking so much when I am planning on buying half of Boston [ii] Just a planner at heart I guess!
Hey, you want to see what happens when I'm going to Orlando...we are talking spreadsheets with drop downs and all sorts, detailing actvities to squeeze into every minute. You have to make the most of extra magic hours, parades, fireworks etc. Boston is very much small scale compared to those military ops!

Ah, you misunderstood me! By headless chicken, I meant checking off everything on your list lol. Sounds like you have done though! I have a little longer to go before my trip, but I, too, have a folder with all the relevant docs in - including directions from each place to the next (along with maps, naturally!)
Glad to hear you're gonna hit the Premium Outlet - oh, come ON, how could I ever think you wouldn't? No trip is complete without one of those... or several.... [:p]
