In June, I will be taking VS8 from LAX to LHR that arrives in T3. However, I need to get to T4 as I need to make a connecting flight on KLM to Amsterdam. How long does it take to get from T3 to T4 and what is the best way to make the terminal transfer? Thanks for your help.

Hi There

The quickest way is to take the Heathrow Express from the Terminal 1,2,3 station which is underground to the Terminal 4 Station.... this is a free terminal transfer service and takes 8 minutes (so they say) ... if you have too much luggage or dont fancy the short walk to/from the stations (which are no more than 5 min in and the same out) you could take a taxi but you run the risk of traffic etc etc by the time you queue for the taxi and then drive round the perimeter it could easily take 30 min or more.... If for any reason there are no trains for any length of time (V Unusual) BAA put on buses which use the cargo tunnel rather than the perimeter road..... hope that helps :)

It depends on whether you can check your bags through to AMS. If both sectors are on the same ticket, you will be able to. If so, I would suggest taking the airside bus from T3 to T4 via Flight Connections. This normally takes 30-40 minutes in all.

If not, you will have to collect your bags and clear immigration, both of which may take some time. Then, as Mark says, Heathrow Express is the quickest way to T4.

Thanks for your help. I am not checked through, so I will have to claim all of my luggage. Didn't even occur to me to take the Heathrow Express to T4. Thanks again:)

As you come into the T3 arrivals hall go down to the underpass, walk to the Heathrow Express station, get on, get off, and you're there!

It's really easy!

Hello everyone

I am travelling in to T1 in May, will be transferring to T3 for my VS flight, but I would also like to visit T4 to meet up with a mate who just happens to be in Heathrow the same day. His flight boards about an hour before mine.

Is it possible for me to check in at T3 and then get out to T4 for a coffee and back again? Would I have to go through security multiple times, or once airside can you travel between terminals?

Best wishes

Paul

^It depends how effecient the BAA are being that day.

Some days they wont allow anyone travel airside to another terminal without a confirmed onward ticket or itinery and sometimes there's no-one around at all!!

If you do check in for your VS flight then decide to leave the terminal, PLEASE tell the VS staff as they will need to make sure your bags aren't loaded - you never know you wont make it back in time for the flight. Don't underestimate the mess up that is LHR!
