Hello

I am flying to Miami and returning from Orlando in May. I booked the holiday through Virgin Holidays. Is there anyway that I can use my miles to upgrade to PE when checking in at either LHR or MCO, if so how many miles would I need?

As previously posted I missed out on the cheap upgrades last month.

Thanks

Unfortunately not, FV.

VH tickets are booked into V class in economy, and H in Premium. Neither are mileage-upgradeable. You may be able to "barter" at the airport for a cash upgrade (they have special rates on the day), but your miles will have to remain in your account for another rainy day...

Thanks, I feared that was the case. I'll try the barter route though.

I think its a shame that VH and VS doint sort this out - I know that the VH ticket is heavily discounted etc etc etc - but surely it not be beyond the bounds of sensible business practise to have a tariff for this very situation - or even a cash plus miles program??

Air fares eh - more complicated than the average jet engine!!!!

As an Engineer, that looks sooo simple and straight forward to me :D

Not always, they have started to use other booking classes such as N. Whilst may not change the answer to the original questions, makes a difference if you are expecting full miles and tier points from all VH fares..

Just to clarify, I believe "megadeal" holidays have allways been booked in N.At least now you do get some miles/ tier points which you didn't before (and a cheap deal if points/miles aren't important).

I was credited full Y mileage and tps on a mega deal to BOS 18 months ago. After reading that VH are booking into non mileage earning buckets no more business for VH.[n]

I think it's probably down to VH using up their allowance of V buckets on VS and pax loads. If VS loads are light but all the V buckets have been sold, maybe VS release other buckets ie N's to VH as VS probably know VH will be able to sell them.

VH did used to get quite a big allocation of seats on VS but not sure if this is the same now (certainly not now in Upper anyway)

ISTBC Jules - that's what FC and VH told me (and VH added further that by paying a premium on top of the megadeal price they will upgrade the class fare to full revenue earning which is usually still cheaper than VH full brochure fare).Maybe I've just been unlucky when I've booked megadeals in the past??
My understanding is that all full price brochure holidays will continue to be V(or H/Z)class and have the full monty of miles and points.

I spoke from my experience (and by the looks of it others had the same experience). It may or may not be the case now, but it has certainly not always been the case.

But it's a moot point anyway!

Seems like it's not the case anymore Jules-last VH I took in November they tried to slip me a megadeal in N-luckily I knew this would not earn tier points or miles (before the conditions changed)hence the paying of extra money to ensure a V.

I know, and have posts elsewhere to this effect myself.

Your statement that ""megadeal" holidays have allways been booked in N" remains incorrect though!

Never mind..

Jules - I'm not sure you've provided an example to disprove DragonLady's theory yet, in fairness...? [?]

Eh? What else can "from my experience" mean other than I have had a "megadeal" offer in a booking class other than N (eg V)?

And jaguarpig has too, according to his post.

And there are threads elsewhere which indicate it's only a recent change to use N as a booking class on VH.

""from your experience" may not have been a recent one...

Anyway - I understand that DragonLady's had an "official" response from VH about current bookings. My gut feel would be to go with that in absence of any recent contradiction.

I never said otherwise - "current" is very different from "always", that's all I was saying..
