Last month I booked a mile qualifying flight to Miami in the knowledge that it would take my balance up to 40,000 (enough, at the time, to get a free flight later in the year). Obviously I paid more to get the mile qualifying fare. But when I go to book the free flight I find its now 50,000 for Miami! Did I imagine the 40,000 or did they increase the number of miles required in the last few weeks? When I booked the flight, I opted not to get the online booking bonus miles in favour of being able to spaek to Virgin personnel to confirm that I would have enough miles for the second flight. Any comments or advice as to whether its worth approaching Virgin about it appreciated. Thanks

Naww Gerry, you are not crazy.

Two points that maybe helpful.

The award levels changed and silver benefits increased. Silver members now get a 25 percent bonus. Info on VS's Website

There is no longer a online booking bonus. I think that ended 31DEC2005.

Oh yea - I would not talk to VS ask at the time they probably told you correctly but honestly should have told you of the changes IMHO.

Nope, you didn't imagine it - but the spending levels for reward flights changed on 1st March this year. There was a big thread on it in advance of the changes here, the FAQs reflect the new levels here, and here is the link to the relevant page on the VS site.

Ben's right on the online booking bonus - been gone since the end of last year [:(]

Sorry, but I don't think it's worth approaching VS about it.

Cheers

Did you allow for the 25% bonus you may get though - It all depends on when you booked the flight you have just taken, but if you booked it last month I believe you should get it. This may help you to the new 50k miles.

Hi,
Another option is to go elsewhere - there are still a few destinations for 40K - Doesnt help if you got you mind set on Miami though!!

I got the silver bonus on flights we did March/April even though these had been booked last Nov.

All changes were effective March 1 2006

meaning all reward flights booked before then (even for flights 1 yr in the future) would be 40K (to the usa)

All flights flown from March 1 will get the new Au/Ag bonuses regardless of when they were booked...
