You will all be pleased to hear that from the 15th April the news tape will no longer be onboard. Entertainment will be avaialble straight after takeoff.

Also this year in AUG/SEP we will have news fed to the Aircraft from SKY TV and it will show up as a line at the bottom of the screen on 1 channel. So it will be news as it is happening.

Great news! I hate being forced to watch old news when I dont want too!

The live news ticket feed is quite cool though.

Good point. It is a bit like those blue lights are to flies though - I know I shouldn't look at it, I don't want to look at it, but somehow I feel compelled to... [:I][:?]

I think a news feed is a good thing - just not compulsory

Sometimes on an homecomming flight ids good to see the news -even if its old!!

Yeah - but I get in trouble for that when sat upright, as others can see the screen... [:I]

I am pleased it has been scrapped but agree with Jonathan that it would be good to keep it as a selectable channel on the AVOD system.

Well, I have one thing to say.... "Yay". It really was such a drag.

Thanks for listening, VS!

This is fabulous news!

Does this mean V:Port will be available from the time you board?

EDIT - just re-read the original post - will V:Port be available just after takeoff or will it be some other entertainment tape?

Agree with that, though if the IFE is turned on right after take off this would be a lot better [oo]

Me me me....;)

I'm also glad to hear the news has been scrapped though - igf there's one thing to depress a person, it's flying home and hearing all the gloom and doom....

No real problem there, I like admiring the sights for the first 30 or so minutes anyway.

This news feed system though.
You say it will appear on 1 channel... does this mean it will appear on a channel with other current TV programming, or a separate channel?
Otherwise good show Virgin!

(Oh and it was ncie to have Skymap on from boarding through take off on my last flight too...)

Now that I'm thinking of it, I think a great option would be for VS to have a channel simply filled with worldwide news and weather. Perhaps it could be a live feed provided by satelite. I'm not sure how available or possible that would be though...

Jetblue use DirecTV for their live feed, although I'm not too sure that the signal would be any good out in the middle of the Atlantic?[:?]

It shouldn't be that hard to do,cruise ships pick up feeds mid ocean,no idea who supplies it though...
