Hmmmm now there's an idea, as I have Carlos issues 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 11 & 12 sat here on my book shelf.

I'll sell you two copies for 1p, but in line with common ebay practice I'll be charging a 1000% markup on postage - that's ok I assume? :)

A regular ebayer I see!!

Seriously though, does anyone know if back issues are available? I wouldn't mind getting a collection!

How did Virgin decide on a replacement? Did they carry out a passenger survey to gain opinions - especially from us ladies as Carlos seems to have been a tad male orientated. (Only going by previous comments!) Seriously I am interested to know how Virgin have researched this.

Someday I may be in UC heaven and get to read it[:p]

You haven't seen pretentious clap-trap until you've been unfortunate enough to come across Elite Traveller magazine. At $35 an issue it is even daftly priced. BA seem to stock it regularly in the First lounges and for some odd reason so does the gym in my apartment complex!

Expect to see:
-lots of adverts for luxury items
-read about $400,000/week yacht charters
-most expensive suites in Las Vegas
-Other clap trap....

Well that would explain the distinct lack of them on the flight home yesterday - but then to be honest not really too much of a loss. The distribution was a bit hit and miss, jsut like the content to. On the whole I found it to be a bit of a strange publication for VS to be doing. I remember the old 'Hot Air' magazine that was dished out across the cabins that was pretty good, but that was canned post 9/11, so I was surprised to see them spending money on such a niche area of the service. There are far better areas to spend money on.

Looking through the selection of magazines in the new LHR CH (will upload some pictures soon), there is a quite an offering of 'lifestyle' magazines of which all have a very small target audience. I've seen the referenced 'Elite Traveller' and it was well produced, but not worth $35/copy. I'd put it in the 'Looks nice on the coffeetable colelction', along with most of the aforementioned magazines. It kind of reminds me of the magazine that AmEx sends out every quarter to its Centurion members, but then that is free (well, part of the annual fee).

So overall, no great loss and I hope the money saved can be put to good use.

Thanks,
Richard

P.S There is a reasonable selection of magazines at the UC bar, I'm quite partial to reading Top Gear.

The money saved will be spent on the replacement, like I've previously mailed. If I get permission to share the pdf's I will.

Whilst I always thought its design and remit were impressive I won't be that sad to see it go.

Always ditched it in favour of Heat or Conde Nast anyway.

In-flight Reading Material is always going to be hard balance to get - particularly for VS.

Carlos, loved the design and the look and thatÕs about it. I tried reading it a few times, but gave up on it. It just didn't seem to suit VS or UC to me.

The balance is the hardest part, BA have it a lot easier - lots of boring corporate stuff, some travel info and quality hotel / spa reviews. BA is very much targeting the Suits. VS naturally want the business market but that is different from the corporate / executive market. And of course because of its attitude and marketing it does have a good leisure traveller market Ð would be interested to know how this compares to BAÕs.

Personally I think they should dump Carlos and any branded in-flight magazine and instead purchase a selection of reading material. Now of course that reading material is going to be a problem Ð what do you choose? Why are they magazine racks always full of golfing magazines? How about Time, American Scientific, Heat (or some other gossip rag) etc.

Yeah, I was disappointed to not have ANY branded in-flight magazine on recent VS flights. As a nerdy plane-spotter, on most flights with any airline, I always flick first to the 'Our Fleet' section, and read the interview with a random crew member about their favourite sector, and a funny embarrassing moment! :)

VS could save themselves a fortune by getting a different V-Flyer member to write these each issue :)

Thanks,
Sarah

Amazing!

Looking on ebay it appears as though someone is almost making a business of selling the old copies of Carlos as well as some Amex bric a brac!

You know, that could be a winner for VS... an in-flight mag, with a monthly column dedicated to V-Flyer.. we could each guest edit it on a rotating monthly cycle..

You should pitch the idea, next time you're talking to a VS exec...
