Trees for Limo Rides

Now, the article is a bit of a VS-bash over double standards:

Environmentalists have accused Virgin Atlantic of double standards over an initiative to plant trees to compensate for the carbon dioxide emissions from limousines used to drive its customers to airports.

However, forgetting the rights/wrongs of this policy (which are detailed in the full article), I wasn't aware of any initiative in the first place. I would have thought VS would make a little song & dance about it?

I guess, at least, it's in the Press Releases section of VA.com:

The Virgin Atlantic fleet will primarily be made up of Volvo’s V70 and S80 models and will include optional Bi-Fuel and XC90 vehicles. Following Volvo's example as a CarbonNeutral company, Virgin Atlantic and Tristar Worldwide Chauffeur Services are actively exploring alternative environmental options, such as CarbonNeutral, to offset the emissions of the fleet in the near future.

So - a fleet refresh of replacement Volvos soon...

Typical article to be honest, so are we saying that those tree hugging activists/whingers never fly on a plane then? Its nice to see that VS have at least tried to make an effort.

VS should also think about this at their destination airports as well. Think about the hundreds of big engined, inefficient (not to mention squishy suspensioned) town cars they contract out all over the US.

Yeah, if those people are concerned about England's situation they should come to the United States and see all of the housewives driving huge suburbans to the freakin supermarket. Talk about a waste of oil...
